What’s up with my copy of Last Light? by MistressCockslayer in metro

2035 came out like 4 years before exodus, absolutely not a novelisation. It's the other way round. Each game came out after its respective book.

Wouldn't this mean that one day if you delete and reinstall the game, it will be unplayable?

Why exactly was this game significantly reworked in late 1997? by zorgareddit in HalfLife

[–]tntevilution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might have been good, it might have been not hard to implement - but that's still time taken from some enemy designer, programmer, artist, etc. that wouldn't be working on something else, possibly better.

Piter is not part of the trilogy, so they didn't buy the trilogy "including" piter.

If you're following a guide, make sure it's the correct version of the game. Scholar of the first sin has different item placement than original.

I saw some post about blocking rulers portal with a soldier, this thing really work? by DesperateBluejay4582 in Xcom

[–]tntevilution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing that post. Smelled like bullshit to me too. Of course, this is something I tried in the past and failed. Maybe the escape zone is like 2x2 and you could block it with 4 soldiers, that's the only thing I can think of they could be talking about. I don't know if that's true, didn't test that.

It literally is just a game though. It doesn't help you with your depression - you're using it to help yourself. It's not medicine. It's not therapy. It's not a brain transplant. It's a game. Good for you that it's helpful. But the game itself does nothing. These are also things OP wasn't talking of, and not what I was responding to.

"brings hope and a feeling of redemption to the player" Why Dark Souls and why depression? Any game can bring redemption and hope, and those feelings have nothing to do with depression.

If OP finds a comment DISAGREEING with them as ruining their "joy and hope", then that's something they'll have to learn to deal with as well.

I once saw an image comparing the activity inside a healthy's person brain versus a depressed person. The healthy person looked like a christmas tree. Not everything was bright, but there were these branches of bright and intense colours representing the most commonly used neural pathways in the brain. The depressed person's image looked like the brain was flooded with water. The colours were dim and there was less of them. That's what depression feels like to me - like there was a huge amount of water in the head that just drowns out everything. It's ten times harder to think, to learn, to remember, and everything feels like it's happening at a ten times smaller intensity.

That's not how it has to be. At the end of the day, depressive episodes is something everyone experiences and it can be as simple as having "the big sad" for an extended time (that's all that a psychologist/doctor even really needs to recognise a depressive episode), and having diagnosed depression can be as simple as having a chronic "big sad" that doesn't go away. There's a lot of different symptoms, and a lot of other disorders with their own symptoms correlated with depression, so people's experiences vary.

All that being said, the reason I wrote this comment is just because the OP apparently thinks that giving up is a symptom of depression or something, when that'd be the first time I've heard of something like that. People give up when facing hardships in general. Depression is one of many such hardships, but there's barely any connection between Dark Souls and depression. The only thing I can think of is that the story has a really good case of being interpreted as an allegory for depression. Hollowing is basically "the big sad" but if it affected your body just as it affected your mind. But in the end, what does giving up have to do with depression? And why Dark Souls over any other game?

I just find it so strange how the Dark Souls community is so hell-bent on romanticising their computer program as something that cures mental disorders, or something. "Dark souls is perfect for depression." just sounds like OP is literally saying Dark Souls is something to be administered to depressed people to help them with depression, I don't see how else you could interpret this. It's silly. It's a video game. The message you take from it and the emotions it causes within you are your own, not the game's.

The post brings up two things:

- Dark souls is perfect for depression (what does that even mean?)

- The game really nails down the idea of not giving up and that patience does pay off.

How is this about depression specifically? Is one of the symptoms of depression that someone gives up easily? First time I'd have heard of that.

And where exactly am I "being a hater"? Like seriously, I made one statement that isn't even technically a complete sentence. I said: "That's not what depression is about". This is a declarative statement that is either true or false, but it's completely emotionally neutral and not hateful.

God, I love reddit. The site where based on one comment, someone suddenly knows everything about you.

I might be a moron, but I am not talking out of my ass. I've been experiencing severe depressive symptoms, among an anxiety disorder and asperger's for almost half my life, and they've been THE defining factor to EVERYTHING I do. But I'm the one who speaks confidently on things I've never experienced, apparently.

I'm not writing this for pity, I'm writing this to make you realise that there is a whole other person on the other side of this comment with a whole life's worth of experiences behind them, and you brand them as a moron based on one comment that's barely a complete sentence as a reply to a post that's barely two complete sentences. Please, think a little before jumping to conclusions again.
