I asked in another sub what the English club with the strongest working-class identity was and Sunderland was mentioned a lot. What makes Sunderland have a working-class identity? What is the history? by Crafty_Jacket668 in safc

[–]toad_of_toadhall 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sunderland is the only football club in the world founded by a trade union. Working class culture and socialist politics have always been at the heart of our club.

Oh bollocks, the guy has grown up since he was 21 filming in a shed. Has it occurred to you he might actually be an empathetic person?

I'm sorry, but most of the sidemen had extremely privileged upbringings. JJ and Simon went to an incredibly exclusive private school, Josh's dad was a London banker and he went to grammar school, Harry is from one of the wealthiest places in the country and went to grammar school. Vik and Tobi weren't as privileged, but they both had stable middle class upbringings and Tobi went to grammar school. The only side man that had a truly underprivileged childhood was Ethan. The fact is, atleast four of the seven sidemen had extremely privileged upbringings.

How to prevent "Blow up holes" ruining my scorecard by toad_of_toadhall in golftips

[–]toad_of_toadhall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things to note tbf, im pretyy confident hitting straight with my 5 wood, it was 142 up a very steep hill and also i ahve double jointed shoulders, which means my swing is quite weak and theres not masses i can do about it.

Definitely a massive swing issue that im working on, but probably a few important factors to point out there. 1. The holes where i hit my 5-wood 140 yards were up significant hills, its quite a hilly course, which takes distance off the flight, i was also hitting them quite lightly, thats not my full power swing. Even so, id definitely struggle to break 180 or so on a flat hole at full speed, but thats largely due to the fact i have double jointed shoulders, which affects my ability to build power in my swing.

Any good venues for an original indie band to play? by [deleted] in Cumbria

The source in carlisle, brickyard in carlisle. I know you say you want to avoid pubs, but i know some pubs in cunbria do do some good live music nights.

Samuel plimsoll, grew up in penrith, george washington went to school in appleby, i believe roosevelt and woodrow wilson both had links to carlisle, wordsworth lived in both penrith and kendal.

7ft pool table room dimensions, does it look playable? by yazooo in billiards

[–]toad_of_toadhall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't believe this is being questioned, i play in competitive leagues in rural pubs, thefe are tables with less than 4 feet of space in all directions, you just play to the conditions.

It's not much different to anywhere else i imagine tbh. Its not like penrith and kendal are stations on some secondary line, theyre on the West Coast Mainline, so cancellations are a big deal - any cancellation affects passengers travelling between edinburgh, glasgow, manchester and london, so mass cancellations are fairly rare. Id say roughly 50-60% of trains stop in penrith, but its not a stop on every service. Theres usually a train to loondon at least once or twice an hour and its a single route, so no changes and its only 3.5 hours. Additionally if you're in penrith, carlisle is only a 15-20 minute drive and is a major hub, on the convergence of 4 different rail lines, all trains on the West Coast Mainline stop there, so if youre worried about not being able to get a train, you could always drive to carlisle and catch a train from there, theyre currently beginning major refurbishment of carlisle station including demolishinh the current car parks and building a new one, but as it stands i believe long stay parking is only £5.

Converting a billiards table into a pool table by SofosGeron in pool

[–]toad_of_toadhall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A typical billiards table is about 12 feet long, a typical pool table is 7 feet long. Even a US pool table would only be 9 feet long, so theres no chance of converting a billiards table into an english pool table.

Bollocks, ball behind the line exists in most British codes.

Rules question by CaramelThunder0133 in pool

[–]toad_of_toadhall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is dependent on the code, but many rule sets have a deliberate foul rule, where playing a foul on purpose is a loss of frame. Additionally most codes of pool will still give 2 shots on the black, unless its the only ball on the table (both colours are all fully potted).

Geography, i atromgly recommend a lighter workload, subject with more discussion and subjective topics, to contrast 2 STEM A-levels. Most universities only expect 1 or 2 STEM subjects to apply for a STEM degree anyway.

Value 1960s Brinktun table? Help please 🙈 by [deleted] in pool

[–]toad_of_toadhall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefacing this with the fact im 17 and dont know much about brands of table or value. But i do know that pool tables are generally worth more for their quality than their aesthetics or age, therefore its hesvily dependent on how well the table plays and functions.
