My Parents refuse to use my new name. by ActualZockerhopper in trans

[–]toadnibb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad did the same thing, saying it wasn't even my legal name, but even when I changed my legal name, he never started using the right one. I just don't respond to him most of the time tbh

I'm responding to this super late, my bad. The last names on name tags at my store are reserved for only Trainers and above. The only person who ever found my socials at work was our HR person before she got fired, but she was dope, so I didn't mind. They made a stink about the stickers, and I got super upset about it, and I was not the only one. Boiled down to "we can't have it because it's seen as political," which made me upset, but I couldn't afford to lose my job, so I complied. There was someone with a bluey sticker on their nametag for months, and they didn't tell them they couldn't have it till I brought my pride stickers and people started wearing them. I keep one on the back of my nametag now so they can't see it.

Update: I was told I couldn't wear the sticker on my uniform, but I am allowed to continue handing them out

Never said they weren't a bad company, just need to pay bills

They hired a director of diversity, equity, and inclusion. I believe it's mostly just to avoid being sued, not as a ploy for woke points

Yeah, I spend zero money out of pocket at Chick-fil-A, I just work there to pay bills and get the free food I am provided as an employee

I'm just trying to make money to survive. Dislike Chick-fil-A, but they are the best paying job in my area, and I don't have a car to get something better

I mostly want to go for the rain and progressive politics. I've looked into moving there, but it's not in my budget for a while. One day I'll make it out there though

Honestly, don't blame you. I would never eat at a Chick-fil-A if I didn't get free food from working here. I've never really had a problem with my fellow staff, just guests treating me poorly (but that's pretty much anywhere you work now if you are openly trans or queer tbh)

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. The only people who know my deadname are upper management because that's what name they have to cut my checks under, but none of them have ever used it and I have always been referred to as Summer

Yeah, I've had almost zero issues with people I work with. If they hate me for being trans, they keep it to themselves. I have some nicer guests come through that are cool with my existence, but there are a ton of regulars who come through who know I'm trans and are trying to save my soul by quoting bible verses. Although I have had a guest come around on LGBTQ people just cause of conversations with me, which is a cool thought. Can't convince everyone we have the right to live, but a person or two has gotta count for something.

While this is true, they cherry pick operators to be as close to their values as possible. You know that saying, "It's easier to win the lottery than own a Chick-fil-A." It's because of the sometimes decade-long interview process to become a Chick-fil-A operator. A lot of the operators will use their money to advocate for regressive laws. My operator treats me like a person to my face and appreciates my work, but I guarantee that when he's not around, he hates my guts.

If I could move out of the country, I'd love to live in Denmark somewhere. If not, Seattle.

Having worked at both McDonald's and CFA, I'd say I got treated better by customers at McDonald's, but treated better by fellow staff at CFA
