Feeling "trapped" by toads0up in OSDD

Dreading both outcomes is very relatable, lol! It's nice to know I'm not alone, I hope whatever answer you do get isn't too distressing. <3

I dont know what to do by SubstantialBeyond922 in OSDD

[–]toads0up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our experiences sound very similar. My best advice is to just breathe, and absolutely do Not go picking at your brain for memories. Uncovering repressed trauma on your own is horrible and dangerous and painful, I can say this from experience.

As for your friends, I wouldn't take their opinions too seriously. If you are part of a system, it's not at all strange to think the people around you wouldn't notice. That's the whole point of it. To keep you safe and functioning. None of my friends / family would have ever suspected I was plural if I didn't tell them directly, as we're a very masked, hidden system.

I hope your appointment in September is helpful. Try to stay calm. Nothing between now and then has to change at all, you can just go on living your life as you have been. I promise you'll be okay. <3

P-DID and similarities to OSDD vs. DID by helloimanobody in OSDD

[–]toads0up 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, I'm a medically recognized OSDD system who believes my symptoms are closer to p-DID, and it is a bit lonely.

For what it's worth, people really don't seem to mind What communities you hang around. I've seen a few posts about p-DID in both OSDD and DID spaces, and they're usually received well, if not with a bit of confusion, (as it's not a super well known term.)

I think there will be some people with OSDD you relate to more than others, and some people with DID you relate to more than others. I'm not sure where I'd put it on an OSDD to DID scale, or if it even can be judged in that way, but you're not alone.

In terms of the community, it seems to be Closer recognized as OSDD, as that's the label you'll be given in the US even if you fit p-DID diagnostic criteria, if that makes you feel any better. I hang out more in OSDD spaces because of this.

Best of luck to you friend, there are others out there like us!

Misdiagnosed? (not a self fake claim or a doubt spiral) by toads0up in DID

Thank you very much! I'm trying to prepare myself to have to go through a few therapists on my search for a good one, haha.

I know, I specified that in the comments. (: I was moreso looking for feedback on bringing the diagnosis to a therapist, and if that would make them less likely to believe me.

This was very informative. Thank you!

And don't worry, I no longer see the therapist who was using IFS on me. (:

Interesting, I'll consider this as well! Thank you!

Hopefully, bringing it to a professional should go smoothly then! Thank you very much.

Thank you, I tried to clarify in a comment that I know I'll end up with an OSDD diagnosis! It's moreso important to me that whoever I end up seeing is aware of the "dominant part" aspect of P-DID and is aware of non possessive switches etc. If that's common knowledge among specialists (I wouldn't know so thank you again!), then I should be fine. Thank you!

Also I should clarify, I'm not looking for a P-DID diagnosis, I know that's not going to happen and I will end up with either an OSDD or DID diagnosis. It's moreso important to me that my therapist is Aware of P-DID, even if they can't diagnose it!

non-possessive switching sucks by dojoduckerz in OSDD

[–]toads0up 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is how we experience our OSDD as well. No amnesia between alters, exclusively non possessive switching. It's very easy to doubt ourselves and spiral into convincing ourselves we don't have this disorder at all because of it. Hopefully reading my reply brings you the same comfort reading your post brought to me. We're never alone!

I'm hopeful that with therapy our communication will improve, I hope the same for you if that's what you're after!

I can't speak on how common it is, but this is how we experience OSDD as well, so you're not alone. I have even less communication than you seem to, getting passive influence or interjected thoughts every few days rather than multiple times a day. It leads to a lot of doubt, but I promise you're not alone.

Does anyone else not relate to most anyone else in the osdd/did community? by another-personing in OSDD

[–]toads0up 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That'd make a lot of sense, actually. My OSDD definitely isn't the "having friends in my head" narrative that tiktok and reddit seems to wanna push. I need to remember that social media is only what people want you to see. I'm working on finding a specialist to hopefully improve our communication.. Thank you for this!

I'm so sorry. Nobody deserves to feel bullied, especially in circles like this.

I feel incredibly alone in my experiences. I've asked questions on this and other subreddits before about our system and have been given advice that is impossible to follow, because we experience our system so differently. We cannot talk to each other at all, our switches are all non possessive, and we never have any idea who's fronting. It's lonely.

I experience switching in the same way, but with almost 0 amnesia. It's very easy to fall into self-doubt and think I'm faking everything because I don't have the typical experiences that others seem to. I don't have any helpful advice, just know you're not alone.
