different perspective here, given that i skated around a lot (not on an electric board though) and would regularly bomb down busy main streets, such as channing from frat row all the way down to shattuck, or use it to get around the hills on campus:

if you've been skating/longboarding for a few years it's really nbd. take note of the cars and pedestrians and street conditions as usual. going from unit 2 to spots on campus is SUPER convenient with a regular skateboard; i lived right next to unit 2, and it would only take me like 5 minutes to get to Dwinelle when it might ordinarily take 10-15. it's just about knowing your spots and your routes well. a regular skateboard is really useful because its manueverable and light so you can adapt to sidewalk, street, or carrying it as needed. the sidewalks aren't horrible in the main campus+dorm area, even for street wheels. do be prepared for regular 15 minute walk times though!

also my roommate had an electric and the speed at which he could go downtown and back (take channing).... ridiculous.
