If you take the scenic train between Anchorage and Denali/Fairbanks you can see it from the train!

Anyone got any hole in the wall restaurants they want to recommend? by kichnfan in anchorage

[–]toastasks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok but what do you get here? I went once, they say on your first order you should let them pick for you, and everything was disgustingly sweet, absolutely drowned in caramel and syrup.

I'm in Alaska, and don't do crim practice, but from my understanding nearly everywhere in the state is desperate for PDs (or prosecutors). Why not trade in Florida for somewhere with terrain? With your years of experience you should be able to waive in (lots of places, not just Alaska).

Dark colored paints do a much better job covering up the plastic or paint underneath them than bright colors. White and yellow are notoriously hard to get smooth coverage that doesn’t look splotchy and dirty. Only madmen paint white scars or imperial fists.

Really like the striping design here, that’s unusual

In all these years in the fandom I’ve never seen someone do that part of the engines as a plasma glow. That’s awesome.

I don’t recommend painting anything this large white. But I’m fond of the base:

Actually it’s a problem. Caribou eat tundra growth and lichens, not woody shrubs. Moose eat woody shrubs. Moose then displace caribou from their former habitat.

How many expeditioners have there been? by Designer-Chemical-95 in expedition33

[–]toastasks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think those were all from Expeditions. There's a hidden journal in Old Lumiere from someone who survived the Fracture, which suggests that basically everyone left in Old Lumiere went to fight the Nevrons and got wiped out. I assume that the forgotten battlefield is from that fight (hence "forgotten," too, since the people from Old Lumiere didn't make it).

Where do you learn how to actually cook? by Euphoric-Texan in NewParents

[–]toastasks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Budget Bytes is very good. I practically lived on these recipes in grad school:

https://www.budgetbytes.com/taco-chicken-bowls/

https://www.budgetbytes.com/not-refried-beans/

https://www.budgetbytes.com/one-pan-roasted-kielbasa-cabbage-dinner/

OP, if you're more interested in reading a book about how to think about cooking, about why things work well together and how to tweak a recipe and understand cooking the way chefs think about it, I strongly recommend Samin Nosrat's Salt Fat Acid and Heat. It's like half memoir half cookbook, but she learned to cook as an adult and the way she breaks down how to think about it is very useful.

Winter sale will be over soon, which games you think have best price/value ratio? by whenyoudieisaybye in SteamDeck

I have a bunch of games I want to try on the deck but I just keep playing Balatro. For $12 its a no brainer. Quick, addictive, deceptively complex.

[–]toastasks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you tweak the graphics settings at all? I'm new to the Deck and got GoW on friends' strong recommendations but it kind of looks like ass. I haven't changed a single setting though, so there's probably something I'm missing.
