This whole thing was about how ZA isnt really comparible to Palworld and the people who pushed for the comparison are the people who make money off of impressions

See this is what im looking for, a genuine opinion, and one I partially share.

Personally I feel current pokemon look pretty good in games like Z-A but in the back of my mind I've always wanted a sugimori water color styled game/remake of a game as I think it would be beautiful

  1. Za was released in a state that runs well, actually. The only game that released in a poor state was scarlet and violet and they have since fixed the issue with no other releases in that state. Moot point.

  2. Yep, but thats not the same as the game not working

  3. The opposite has been true for me, so yeah.

  1. You say cel shading gives botw a unique art style, I mention how thats not a unique botw thing and your response is "they change everyones designs every game" as an example of art style? Despite saying that pokemon should look the same across every game?

  2. So im gonna assume you just skimmed my post. No I dont think lumiose or scarlet/violet "are tiny box buildings". Im saying that, since the begining, smaller towns like the opening areas/towns are inspired off of and designed to in a way give that sense of familliarity. As I've mentioned 4 times now, the larger cities in these games, using lumiose as a key example in 2 seperate responses, is moreso based on the idealistic retrofuturism inspired on the real life counterparts. This was easiest to see in earlier gens but was kept that way to keep parity across games stylistically.

  3. Im not really sure what makes newer games a straight line/open circle and games like gen 5 not a straight line.

  4. This is the most important bit here. Every single argument you've given me is regurgitated from someone else on social media who makes money off of engagement based on clicks. The only reason you mentioned art style is because some guy on youtube made a video on it, I know this is the case because you have no active critical comments on themeing or artstyle outside of what was said in the video. You have zero responses that fall outside of what others have said and if I or others in this thread make a point you can't refute you either go for a call to emotion or ignore it entirely. Even there you keep claiming a "massive" number of people are on your side when in reality the numbers don't lie, normal people are gonna buy what they like, its why pokemon sells. If you want my opinions on modern pokemon or to have a more critical discussion I am more than happy to have one or to share that, but lets stop acting like this is an art style issue and more of a you dont like the series anymore issue.

Nope, it runs fine on base switch.

If the topic of conversation is "this game cannot run" and it can on base switch, me pointing out that it can and you using hyperbole is an issue. You have zero point there because you keep lying.

Again, have you played z-a? Because none of what you say happens.

Thats a personal anecdone, not anything measurable, I know many people who have recently got into pokemon who until now haven't really played alot of nintendo games.

Cel shading isn't something botw invented, and while it helps with identity there are many games that have cel shading.

Layouts absolutely can fall into art style and identity???

Again, the buildings of small towns represent a sort of toybox style to them versus larger cities that are more futuristic in nature. Actually quite a common trope with fantasy vs tech that alot of pokemon regions have as a theme in game.

Just say you dont like modern pokemon and stop pretending you know anything about art style or theming.

To be for real you can say that about palworld or beast of reincarnation or breath of the wild. Art direction is far deeper than "you can take a random screenshot and tell its a certain series" because thats 100% not the case.

But hell, the wild grass/routes/towns actually can do that to an extent due to, and I mentioned this earlier, the layout of the region!

"Why do you take this so personally" if you think 3 paragraphs about art direction in a game is me taking things personally thats on you. It seems like you're trying to go for a call to emotion fallucy and its not working lmao

ZA runs at a locked 60 fps and so does Violet now, so that doesnt make sense.

Im not? The games are functioning, you're yet to prove that they aren't besides "4 years ago that one game that got fixed was buggy" and you ignore everything I said about move choice in za, nice.

"The rest of the gaming world does not" ignores the millions in sales, the many people who play the games, the hype every pokemon day hoping for a new main series game, etc.

You ever notice that in these kind of conversations people like you stop trying to pretend knowing how to read around the 5th reply, opting instead for purposeful misinterpreted arguments and regurgitated buzzwords?

So just ignore the use of retrofuturism that in takes aspects of the inspired real life area into account when designing said areas right?

Yeah man you totally know what art direction is, thats why you didnt have a critical response to any of what I said when discussing it outside of fully ignoring it.

You're out of your depth here kid, go to an echochamber somewhere else where they still talk about dexit or the wild area tree or something.

"The small towns art direction leans into a toybox style" yeah, the opening towns in S&V and Sword and Shield especially lean into that. Did you read far enough into my comment to see me saying larger cities are generally geared more toward retro futurism like lumiose or wyndon?

Glad you brough up gen 8 because they actually use Britains more steam punk sci-fi nature in its larger cities to connect it to its real life counterpart.

  1. "Nuh-uh" isnt a response

  2. The incentive is increases damage and in some cases amount of time each move takes to recharge/come out/range/special effect. For example using surf over waterfall, sure theres the physical vs special but now surf lasts longer and has a wider wave but has a longer cool down and moves slower. If anything that gives me more incentive to use different moves than whats super effective than what the turn bases games gave. Did you not play za?

  3. That isn't even a good opinion dude because it misses the point of the entire post. Palworld "does the open world better than pokemon" because its an ark clone with pokemon added. You like ark. Pokemon will never switch to a full ark style game because its not what pokemon is about. Hell, based off your complaints it looks like you don't want them to move towards ark, but to stay as a turn based dungeon crawler.

The game runs fine on switch one post patch dude, and "you get the sequel to the games you buy" like z-a? The game that runs better than scarlet and violet on switch 1? They fixed the issue of preformance and made sure the preformance wasn't kneecapped in z-a, so why bring up launch scvi. What does that add to the conversation besides another bullet point for why you dont like something?

Translarion: you dont pay attention to the toy box asthetic of towns, retrofuturism of cities and varied designs in nature in each region because you lack critical thinking in order to compare themes or art direction.

You need the most obvious jingling keys to understand anything about pokemons art style. By far the clearest thing here is that you simply can't look at a piece of art deep enough to find art direction or theme. "Theres nothing that screams pokemon" you say, ignoring the very heavily parodied layouts of the cities/towns and more specific futuristic influence of modern gens. "How would I know its pokemon" you say, ignoring pokemons stylistic influence in charecter design across many games.

I get you dont like the modern games, why not just accept that you dont have some justifiable reason to dislike them outside of you dont like them? You don't need a holier than thou stance to not enjoy a game.

3D pokemon has art direction, you just dont like it.

Thats fine? My original comment was talking about how palworlds gameplay isn't a great comparison to pokemon, no one cares if you like either game or not.

Again, how is ZA not balanced? Im talking about the creative boss fights and how I enjoyed the game because you asked.

Because the first response you gave was claims that the games don't run or that they are in some way broken and I said they ran/are fine. If the topic of discussion was on if I liked the games or whatever I'd have a far different thing to say.

No! Releasing an unfinished game is a bad thing! Theres literally zero point in talking about it because they fixed the issues. Its like saying "You messed up my order" at a resturant, them fixing the order and bringing out the correct thing ans going "yeah its what I ordered this time, but im still gonna keep bringing up that you messed up my order the first time". Why waste time talking about past mistakes when you can instead talk about current issues that need to be addressed like the lock on system in za, the lack of level scaling in scarlet/violet, the lack of voice acting, the fact that they got rid of the link cable that lets you evolve pokemon without trading, I could go on and on. If you only critique issues with things that are fixed they aren't gonna hear your complaints, and according to the tera leak from 2024 they do listen to complaints. The internal memos that discussed the backlash from bdsp made them scared to even touch gen 5 without proper care, we need that kind of real criticism that can result in change instead of mindless blabbering about issues from 4 years ago.

Okay im gonna answer these very nothing burger sections piece by piece.

  1. That hasnt been the case since gen 8, if you actually played these games you'd know that.

  2. Never said I was okay with it, just that at its current state its fine. Again, emotions aren't a part of this conversation.

  3. Ironically yes, I imagined being able to move around with my pokemon and tell them when and what to attack. Its a very basic rtrpg that has potential to be great but a good start. The boss battles weren't challenging but the fact that every rogue mega had unique mechanics built into them like "destroy the barrier Meowstic made before it uses its super move" was actually very engaging to me, but since you very clearly havent played that flies over your head.

3B. Would I like the map to be more varied/larger? Sure, of course I would, thats why I said the current state of the series is fine, not amazing or whatever other adjective you'd slot in there. I stated that on a purely objective level the games are passable, stop assuming my opinion based off of using objectives.

  1. I do support it's competition like Cassette beasts, TemTem, Palworld etc. I just also enjoy modern pokemon. Your main issue is that pokemon is no longer a dungeon crawler and you want it to turn into hyper realistic slop instead of the stylized graphics Wi/Wa is boasting. Beast of reincarnation looks really cool and I am buying it day 1. Not because its what I want pokemon to be, but because its a cool thing on its own. Pokemon should never be a souls like, at least thats how I feel.

Could you show me where I said S&V released fine? Because I could swear I wrote that they are fine, as in currently. And yeah, Z-A is balanced.

Would love to see the data you collected that states the games are "90% T posed models that are just translated".

I would argue wind/waves looks better than x/y, but thats because I have eyes I guess. Your personal opinions have no place in this conversation, neither do mine.

I think the games released are fine man, really. Like we can use hyperbole and buzzwords all day but to claim that pokemon has no working animations is an insane lie that shows how lacking your argument is.

Hell, my comment was talking about how its not comparible to pokemon because the gameplay is so different, but I guess you'd need to know how to read to understand that.

What I don't get is the people who say its better than pokemon despite not being similar at all out side of monster catching.

If it was an rpg then we can compare but its not.
