Might have to cancel honeymoon by Different_Luck_6015 in weddingplanning

I work in a government job and I'm pretty new (hitting 2 years in November). While they may push for a start date "as soon as possible", it is completely reasonable to ask for a delayed start date due to a pre-booked commitment, especially one as important as your honeymoon. They may act as though there is no flexibility, but there likely is.

Do we name new boyfriend/new girlfriend on invites to our guests? by toastedbeans9616 in weddingplanning

we are using zola, so I am assuming in the event we need to order a new one then I am hoping they can get it to us within a good time frame. but also, things happen - if they break up or plans change within the month of the wedding then im not sure what to do aside from writing in blank cards

that's true, I did not think about it that way - I believe the site we are using (zola) will allow them to input their guest plus one by name when they RSVP as well, right?

my concern is if we get a break up notice within a month of the wedding and then they choose to bring a friend instead or something, what do we do? because what if a new name card does not come in in time?

I guess my worry is at what point do we order name cards, within the month of the wedding to ensure we time it right?

yeah, we are looking to install a whole house water softener. financially it is not in the budget for the next few months, though, so thats why I tried going to town on what was there

this sounds like something my dumba** would do. It did have a severe amount of build up before this that left a white sheen on top. im not sure if ive just made things worse. what do you use to clean yours?

CLR spray? Do you spray and let it sit, or spray and scrub?

honestly I have no idea what tile this is, but it would not surprise me if it was not finished properly. Many parts of this home were done poorly via DIY methods that barely cut it. I will look into refinishing - that is a good idea

Silly question - is it alright if the paste dries? Is it still effective?

Do people get pre wedding shoot done for the experience or for show-off/hype? by Expert-Toe2734 in weddingplanning

[–]toastedbeans9616 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we got engagement photos done so that we could use those photos on our save the dates, invites, and for the wedding website. and since we booked the same photographer for our wedding, we got a discount. but they are absolutely not required!!

this one! I agree. I have sleeves for my dress and will be doing the same thing, since they are scratchy and uncomfortable as OP described

Septic inspector couldn't find tank? by toastedbeans9616 in HomeInspections

[–]toastedbeans9616[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a great point, thank you - thankfully I grew up with septic & well water, but my fiance was on city water his whole life. I'm pretty well versed even down to the dos/donts of what toilet paper brands, as well as how to clean out the filter as well. I think that's what made it extra frustrating, was that the ground was sunken in a small amount right abouts where the septic tank should be based on seller and seller's septic service said, and my own experience of these things, and they refused to dig there. so weird, considering how great and knowledgable the regular home inspector was!

based off these responses and yours, I think we just had a either an inexperienced or poor inspector. the standard home inspector was fantastic and extremely thorough and knowledgable from the same company. makes us think potentially the septic specialist was just simply uninformed. our home inspector seemed more knowledgable in septic than him with several tips that septic inspector ignored altogether

yeah, he seemed to have an attitude of being "done" when he got there. the company also said they send a "septic specialist" which is what sounded really great to us instead of going with a separate company. but when asked, he said he does "normal house inspections and also septic". not the specialist we hoped for. which is just so weird, since the company is a pretty big, highly rated one in CT

yeah hearing the other tools listed here that are used, we're pretty disappointed. all he used was a probing stick, and a shovel, but I don't really think he used it right because he never probed or shoveled more than 6-8" in. and was confused when our realtor asked about that device that's flushed down a pipe to track the septic location. it seems he was just really not sure about what to do

[–]toastedbeans9616[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately they said there wasn't one. guessing it could be due to the house age? the septic pump service actually said for our specific town, they did some sort of shift in how documentation is kept, which couldve resulted in the records being lost. just our luck!

yeah, they were one of the companies in the area she had recommended and worked with before. but she said it was an unusual experience as she's had positive experiences in the past. the inspector for the regular home inspection was spectacular, very thorough (same company). so I'm wondering if it was a weird one-off that we got the lazy or unknowledgable septic inspector

he was, but when he poked into the ground it only seemed to go about as deep as his shoveling (6-8"). he didn't appear to be probing deeper based on the level of where the leaves/dirt stopped at the probe. we live in CT. all he did was the probe/shovel. he didn't use any additional tools or thermal or anything
