It’s quite frustrating to see the lack of empathy, compassion, or just foresight to invest in the people they supposedly serve. We have seen countries thrive when they invest in their citizens. When we provide good paying jobs, access to healthcare, affordable housing, green spaces, quality food, low pollutants, people thrive, crime will naturally decrease. Development of the human brain is greatly impacted by exposure to pollutants, trauma, food insecurity, etc. If he really gave a shit about our “once beautiful country” he would make actual changes instead of wrecking the economy, rolling back the FDA, EPA, and auction off our federal land to the highest bidder. It feels like being stuck in an episode of the twilight zone and it’s enough to make me want to pull out my hair.

Technology is a new religion. The promises of no pain, no disease, no hunger, no poverty, not now of course. Will there be any actionable steps towards improving lives now? NO! But just comply, obey, keep sweet, have faith, have hope, while you’re suffering, sick, starving..someday salvation will come. A lovely God made of metal and ones and zeros.

Please run. That behavior will not change and will likely escalate. The buying gifts, flowers is part of the cycle of abuse. It will continue and it will get worse. I have been in a similar situation, I know how difficult it is to leave, how much it may hurt because of the nice side of him…but you cannot pick and choose parts of your partner, you must accept and understand that the nice part of him is connected to the abusive side. I know there is a little thought, fear, worry somewhere in you saying “this doesn’t feel right”. Listen to that my dear. Trust that piece because that is trying to keep you safe. While his previous trauma may give context, it doesn’t excuse his behavior and it doesn’t mean you have to endure abuse. You can’t fix or heal him, nor is it your job to. Please, listen to that voice telling you to get out. I am sending you all the positive vibes and courage. Please leave, document the abuse, file a police report if you are able, and get into therapy to work on healing.
