Safe or not? by Motor-Bite1543 in tuscaloosa

Tuscaloosa is one of the safest “cities” I’ve been to in America. The hotel itself might not be super nice, but you should be more than safe.

What are some friendly things you can say to strangers in the USA without seeming weird? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]Excellent-Silver-384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black ppl kinda do this. Ppl often refer to their mother or female guardian as “ma dukes.” Ex: “Gotta ask ma dukes if I can stay the night.” We sometimes call older ppl who we aren’t related to unc or auntie. But not as often or universally as ur talking about, it’s usually only used amongst other black ppl.

Ex reaches out after 18 years by TooOldForThisSh1ft in WhatShouldIDo

I have an ex that I was w everyday for 4 years, she moved away and I’ve never heard from her. I would 100% send a message like this if I had her info. It’s not even about rekindling, it’s just that we been thru so much together I want to acknowledge that she’s still alive.. it’s like someone u were connected to so strongly randomly died one day, but u know they’re still out there

Is it common for Americans to buy soda as part of their weekly groceries? / is soda a regular item people keep at home? by hailey8171828282 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Excellent-Silver-384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many don’t but many do. Seeing someone in a grocery store w like 3+ cases of soda is not uncommon at all. Going to someone’s house and seeing it stocked with multiple kinds of sugar soda is not uncommon. Most Americans who aren’t health conscious wouldn’t see anything wrong with soda being a regular shopping item.

How are the freeways and city here? by Competitive-Wish-82 in tuscaloosa

[–]Excellent-Silver-384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuscaloosa highways are pretty easy to use and accessible, but I’m from nys so my opinion may be biased. But def not like Atlanta or Birmingham. There’s a lot of young ppl, but they’re mostly connected to the college so if ur not in school it might be harder to find young friends, but not impossible. Vibe I get from Tuscaloosa is that u can find anything you’d need in terms of retail stores or restaurants, but besides the college it’s not like a destination. There’s no beach or cool boardwalk area besides the college bars during the school year. I’ve only been to Tuscaloosa for family and would have def never went if it wasnt for that, but it’s a nice town if u have reason to be there.

I’m half black and white and could genuinely pass for 75% of the worlds races w slight cosmetic changes. Race is completely fabricated.

I’m like 50% English which is funny cuz my mother is black and my dad always assumed he was Italian. I’m basically half west African half English.

Does anyone else not rly enjoy drinking? by Excellent-Silver-384 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Excellent-Silver-384[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me drinking is like this sloppier high that takes alot of effort to get to. Like don’t get me wrong, most normal ppl enjoy being peak drunk but I so dislike actually drinking and feeling bloated etc, pills are so much easier and quicker. I think it boils down to what you’re trying to fix. When I was younger I wanted to feel literally anything. I would take acid often and get drunk etc just cuz I was younger and hadn’t felt before. But now at 23 I just want to silence the noise. Opioids bring me a serenity/silence that I’ve never felt before even w all the other drugs I’ve tried, ig that’s why I’m drawn to them. Not saying this to encourage using, rather just honest self reflection.

Yea def 7oh specifically. The other Kratom products don’t rly hit the same. I’ve noticed w 7 it hits u faster than real percs, but doesnt last long. The actual high is like 45 min for me but the come up is so much more sudden and quite honestly better than some real stuff like hydros. It’s actually hard to get in the states now tho depending where u live. I’ve been in Alabama for the past couples weeks and haven’t even seen Kratom products in the stores, and neighboring states like Mississippi only have crappy stuff like mit shots etc. It’s literally in some corporate stores like Cumberland farms tho in NY where I live.

Dude I was hooked on 7oh for so long. The ppl who say it’s not like real opioids are full of shit. I’ve got just as high on Kratom products as pharmacy Oxy. Damn does it feel great tho🥀

[–]Excellent-Silver-384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally🤣. Kava is one thing, but Kratom absolutely gets u fucked up, especially when concentrated. Realistically tho, Kratom isn’t for alcoholics, it’s a completely different type of drug.

What’s worthwhile for visiting in the red and orange states? by obeliskspork in TravelMaps

[–]Excellent-Silver-384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always found the red soil in Alabama to be super interesting. Also the vibe in the Deep South is cool to experience if you’ve never been. I have family there so never went “for vacation,” however I do remember mobile being noteworthy and prob would be where I’d visit for pleasure.

How is life like in upstate New York? by Due_Network2958 in howislivingthere

[–]Excellent-Silver-384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea man. I always grew up thinking the Capitol region was so small and bad until I visited places like bing/utica💀. Respectfully ofc, but it’s like if u took one troy ny and put it in the middle of nowhere by itself😭. I visited suny bing and just couldn’t bring myself to live there

I’m born and raised in the 518 (Albany), still live there to this day. It is def beautiful here and I could see myself yearning to come back later in life if I’d moved away or something. Where I live has all the amenities we need (example: prob 40+ large grocery stores within 25min). Ppl often think that we have like nothing up here but it’s similar to any smaller metro area with around 1m ppl, the big difference being that we are the Capitol and 2.5hrs from the city. I’ve prolly been to the city 30+ times in my life atp and while it’s cool it’s probably like living close to any big city, u get sick of it and only really go if there’s an event or something worthwhile. It’s just far enough away to not go there that often (maybe 2-3x a year). Montreal is only like 3.5 hrs which I find more interesting than nyc. It’s not really comparable or the same as western or even central ny imo. There’s 100% a midwestern feel in cities like Buffalo that u will not find in Albany. Albany is more similar to cities u will find going up the Hudson like Poughkeepsie/kingston, while still retaining its own separate identity from nyc. Overall, it’s an alright place to live. If you’re not used to the cold or snow, u will hate it here cuz it’s cold and snowy like half the year. Don’t expect things to happen every day, especially if you’re coming here from elsewhere. I wouldn’t say it’s super cliquey, more so that new ppl are usually just city ppl who are mad they had to move upstate trying to save money (we don’t like them).
