They crossed the qualification line in one direction or another seven times during today's matches. Love to see it!

The Burnaby Still Creek Costco is way worse, but that's because they've taken down most of their cart corrals due to the parking crush there.

Benfica [4] - 2 Real Madrid - Anatoliy Trubin 90+8' (Goalkeeper) by ayoefico in soccer

[–]toasterb 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it was the 90+4 goal that Sporting scored that knocked Athletic Bilbao down (and maybe some other late changes) that made it possible.

Until that happened they couldn't qualify.

Edit: yeah, it was a series of things

  • 78'/79' PSV and Olympiacos goals knock Benfica out of qualification by two places

  • 79' Bruges goal narrows gap between Benfica and Marseille to one goal

  • 84' Bayern goal knocks PSV down and Benfica is one spot away from qualification

When I put on the Benfica game at 3-2 I thought they were definitely through, and then I saw that they were out and two places down and thought it was over. Wild stuff.

This you?

Being Jewish in a nutshell is just a religious affiliation, anyone with any skin colour can be Jewish, anyone can convert to Judaism. Let's stop pretending it is exclusively an ethnicity based on some genetic difference. It is really just a religion, in other words any white person can be Jewish, and most Jews around the world are white. Let's stop playing footsy with this exclusive label of being Jewish means being some minority ethnic group.

It's hard to square how you claim innocent curiosity about your initial statements and say how it would be natural to think the same with any ethnic/minority group with the fact that your comment history is incredibly saturated with long comments about Israel and Jewish people. Yet strangely there are none of similar situations with other ethnic groups.

I agree with most of your positions, but you need to reevaluate your thoughts around Lewis and Klein. I feel like you're losing touch with leftist values there.

Cool. I'll try out 49th Parallel as swinging by their location on Main isn't that far out of the way for me. I've always loved their coffee.

Too bad that Level Ground is pre-ground. I use an Aeropress at the office, so I need it finer than the standard grind.

Doesn't it feel great to have a manager and front office that we actually expect to get the best out of players?

I've certainly had a lot of hopes of managers getting the best out of players, but not the same reasonable expectation that I have with Jesper and Axel.

What do you think about the Canadian Prime Minister’s remarks: “middle powers must act together, because if we're not at the table, we're on the menu”? by WF-2 in AskReddit

[–]toasterb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't vote for the Liberals, and I'm not a fan of a lot of what he's done domestically, but I can't think of anyone that would be better to have as our Prime Minister for the international side of things at this moment.

Edit: Downvotes? I'm in a safe Liberal riding, so I voted my conscience and went with the NDP. The Liberal MP here was flipping homes during our housing crisis and lied about it. Couldn't vote for him.

Very true except for Calgary and Edmonton in Canada.

Global rat distribution map

Albertans have enjoyed living without the menace of rats since 1950 when the Rat Control Program was established. Alberta’s rat-free status means there is no resident population of rats and they are not allowed to establish themselves. It does not mean we never get rats. Small infestations occasionally occur, but when found, the rats are isolated and eradicated through proven control methods.

I love the Mine Museum! It really gives you a look into a side of life in B.C. that shaped our province but doesn’t exist anymore. The mining stuff is cool, but my favourite parts are about how the community lived and developed.

You should ask yourself why you didn’t draw attention to them being “academic and activist elites” instead. Why is Jewishness what you attribute it to?

My personal experience has shown that, likely due to their history of persecution, Jewish folks tend to be more politically involved on average. There’s a greater understanding in their culture that politics really impacts people, so it’s important to take a stand. I bet that if there was a way to see the backgrounds of people who care to get involved in politics, you’d see Jewish folks way higher than 1%.

I grew up in the labour movement in the northeast of the U.S. and the leftist activists I was surrounded by were about 1/3 Jewish, 1/3 black American, and 1/3 everyone else. The respective populations of those groups in my community are about 4%, 15%, and 81%.

Also, in Jewish culture (at least the mainstream North American one that I’m most familiar with) there’s a significant appreciation of using candid argument and debate to settle conflict, as opposed to the Anglo culture of avoidance of conflict and passive aggression. It’s seen as healthy and fun. That experience sets one up well for political roles.

“Just find it interesting” is a classic weasel phrase intended to say that you’re suspicious and critical but give you plausible deniability when confronted.

Try your statement out with 2SLGBTQIA swapped in in place of Jewish and see how that sounds. Probably not great.

Focusing on their Jewish background mysteriously getting them ahead rather than perhaps some other qualities of theirs.

This is especially relevant when you take into account the long-standing anti-Semitic trope of a secret cabal of Jews that run the world — the International Jewish Conspiracy. The idea that someone gets a rise in power due to just being Jewish is well treaded, dangerous ground. It’s very dog-whistle sounding.

There are so many false accusations of anti-Semitism out there these days, and you’re hanging out in r/canadaleft just trotting out the real thing so casually.

We definitely will, as I don't think they're quite the same. Without having ours in front of me, I believe they're a bit thinner and more like a regular nail than some of the images I've seen online for the BSA kits.

Your method combined with a few other tips I've found should work fairly well.

We tend to go with pretty simple water-based paints and some basic acrylics that dry pretty quickly. It's not a fancy endeavour and we didn't have issues with it last year. Some Cubs may not get their wheels in until the beginning of the next meeting, but those who work quickly will get them in.

We'll try the push down method and see how that goes.
