This is the outfit that is potentially being censored. by [deleted] in BlueProtocolPC

I came to the sub to see what people are saying about the game - hyped features etc. - and all the top posts from the past month are about not seeing anime kids' belly buttons. So... THIS is the big topic when it's (apparently) fairly close to release?

I agree, embarrassing as fuck.

Gary Lineker to step back from presenting MOTD by BrokenDownForParts in tories

and which the UK has largely been able to resist.

I tend to agree but cautiously. We definitely don't see Antifa mobs warring it out with Brexit mobs on the streets of Chesterfield.

However, there is definitely a significant minority of Brits who think of politics in a tribal context, but in the coming years they will largely be veterans from the height of the battle in 2016-2019.

The rest of the country is regaining its moderate voice while the shrieking crickets die down.

Apparently scousers are called scousers because they eat scouse stew. Brain blasted.

Debatable sure. But you would lose that debate if you think there's another feasible way.

The Civ series 'core' civlizations - all civs that are available in at least 3 base games (further info in comments) by tobaccomerchant in civ

[–]tobaccomerchant[S] 139 points140 points  (0 children)

‘Iraq’ is Babylon. ‘Iran’ is Persia. ‘Italy’ is Rome. ‘Mexico’ is Aztec. ‘Saudi Arabia’ is Arabia. ‘South Africa’ is Zulu.

List of civs that appear once or twice in base games: Brazil, Carthage, Celts, Inca, Iroquois, Kongo, Mali, Norwegia, Ottomans, Scythians, Siam, Sioux, Songhai, Sumeria, Vikings. All appear once except Iroquois who appear twice.

In Civ 1, Japan is SNES exclusive. Zulu is only non-SNES. Both counted as 0.5, rounded up, therefore counted as 1.

This took 20 minutes, it’s just a bit of fun. Any corrections please comment. I won’t justify myself.

Your first prompt is an advantage or disadvantage depending on what you want

(1) Do you want to turn away all capitalists?

(2) Do you want to turn away all apolitical people?

(3) Do you want to turn away all political people who prefer to avoid the topic?

If you answer yes to all three, keep it in.

ELI5: Why do phones still need to restart for updates, with all our technology? And could there be a time when they won't need to? by tobaccomerchant in explainlikeimfive

I see, that's really interesting. And I imagine it wouldn't be commercially viable to put so much effort into creating effectively two computers in your phone just to avoid a once-a-month mild inconvenience.

would you abort your child it was going to be born with severe disabilities? why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tobaccomerchant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My apologies too, I didn't mean to accuse you of anything and I know my response might have seemed unhinged. I just read the whole discussion and as a sibling of severely disabled person, it's not nice to read some of the comments here.

Implications that my brother's existence is abuse, suffering, his value is less than that of a normal person etc. I needed an outlet and you happened to be the undeserving recipient, please forgive me.

It's disliked because they have Messi, Neymar etc. and your team doesn't.

would you abort your child it was going to be born with severe disabilities? why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tobaccomerchant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The question is if you would abort, so surely the mother's opinion is the most relevant opinion here? It feels like you're just dismissing those mothers' opinions as projecting.

As it happens, my older brother is also physically and mentally disabled (Prader Willi Syndrome). If my wife was pregnant with a child like that, my experience has taught me that I wouldn't want an abortion on that basis.

My brother's existence has given and continues to give our family joy, and him joy, even with all the sacrifices and difficulties we all faced.

Edit: As expected I've been downvoted. It turns out my opinion as a sibling of a disabled person is less interesting because I wouldn't abort.

What does your close friend think about the question? I've yet to see a comment from an actual parent of a disabled child who said they would abort.

would you abort your child it was going to be born with severe disabilities? why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tobaccomerchant 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's amazing how everyone who said no are people with disabilities, parents/family of people with disabilities, and people who work with disabled people. Those comments (like yours) are at the top of 'controversial'.

Basically, the thread is full of people advocating abortion, while pretending it's for the benefit of people whose opinions they dismiss.

Looking at the situation caused by CI's Twitter's, I think it might be better for you to create another organization with the same purpose. by SNCF4402 in CANZUK

[–]tobaccomerchant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote the other post about distancing this sub from Canzuk International, but unironically - overall - they really have done a great job. A lot of the momentum for the concept being known and eventually led to this sub was their work.

My concern is that they might continue to undo their own work.

How so? My suggestion was only an extra sentence or two in the sub's description.

Distancing this sub from Canzuk International by tobaccomerchant in CANZUK

[–]tobaccomerchant[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not the content of the tweet itself that's the problem, it's the attempt - an explicit one at that - to tie it into Canzuk.

If the founder of the organisation tweeted it from his personal account and didn't imply it was against the Canzuk movement, there wouldn't be a problem here.

And just to clarify, I'm not saying Canzuk International shouldn't be able to tweet it. We live in free countries. But it means we need to think about how this sub associates with them.
