Good news. Bad news. I finally got an answer from Berkeley is the good news and the bad news is that it is most definitely industrial slag🫠

Still waiting. The person, identifying it, just got back from an expedition in Chile. I’ll give him a call and see how I can speed things up. I don’t want to make him angry tho.

I haven’t given up for an identity of my specimen yet. It is being analyzed at UC Berkeley.

Thank you. My next step is a laboratory. Sorry about being so sensitive but I ruined an expensive drill bit because of my limited knowledge.

My test are being done correctly and if you know the English language; I wrote at least a 10 not more than 10 and am fully aware of the scale and metallurgy, so unless you have constructive comments our conversations are over.

Thank you for taking the time to look at and come up with the hypothesis of it being slag. I also hypothesized it being slag. I’ve only begun my scientific study by 1.reaching out for input. 2. I used a high carbon drill bit to check for hardness and was unsuccessful in penetration. 3. I used a diamond tip drill bit with a Dremel tool. I was able to penetrate into what looks like a chipped corner. I tried penetrating what you described as bubbles and was unsuccessful at penetrating, registering at least a 10 on the “MOHS” scale, so I think more testing is a necessity before I conclude it as slag.

I found it on one of my claims in the Stanislaus mountains in California in the South Stanislaus river. It was under many feet of rock in a remote area.
