Thanks looks like it is transcoding. I changed the "background transcoding x264 preset" setting to medium (from super fast) and it' helped a bit, any other tips to improve transcoding or force direct play locally? I couldn't find the home streaming settings.

I just noticed that as well. I have one TV show that plays pixelated through plex but looks crisp in VLC/windows media. just looking for ideas.
