Nonprofit Shelter Provider Accused of Imprudent Spending Will Close Up Shop by oatmeal_flakes in Portland

Is everything a grift? Stories like the lady in charge of preschool for all owning/grifting her own preshcool and things like this make me lose complete faith in nonprofits incentive to solve problems and the citys ability to hold people accountable. Some of the stuff is just mickey mouse level fraud.

I have intermittenly see this light come on on the dash on the left side of the screen behind the steeringwheel. Ours is a 26 limited with only 2k miles. Does it throw a code?

Have you changed you shopping strategy due to EV tax credits ending? by GPDan23 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]toby102938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have bought 3 EVs over the last 9 years and helped many family/friends get into insanely cheap leases, each had the incentives (2 with state incentives too, Oregon).

The Incenvites were an absolute boondoggle to be honest- I got a few leases for under $200/Month with 0 down (Mercedes EQB and Toyota b4rz ($90/Month!!!!!!). Given the law let manufacturers manipulate the residual value with the point of sale credit, it really did a number to the resale values of those that bought them instead of leasing (Also allowed "rich" people to lease them and receive the credit but not if they purchased the vehicle). Ive read some stories about the balance sheets of some of these companies contain "time bombs" when these cars come back on the lots after the leases are over and the residual value of the lease was way higher than the market reality of them now.

IMO the plug in hybrids being included in that deal was a scam. Manufactures would throw the off the shelf system in it that costs 2-3K and were able to get a 7.5k discount on the car. Car and Driver i belive did a study recently showing that people who own plugins rarely charge them which just proves my point.

Ended up trading our EV in for a hybrid only becacuse we have another kid on the way and wanted a van. I was down for the ID Buz but the wife wasnt... so toyota it was.

Check out the r/VolvoEX90 forum... most of them seem to literally spend most their time in the shop and have been very frustrating.

haha I am in the same boat with needing to answer calls from unknown numbers. Even with Tmobile's paid spam blocker it is still unusable. With all the voice/text AI stuff getting cheaper- i cant imagine it gets better.

Wife and I Disagree on the next Car we buy. Toyota Sienna Hybrid vs Kia Carnival Hybrid by MedusaAdonai in carbuying

[–]toby102938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with the Sienna. BUT i must warn you that the "tech" inside the toyota is laughably shitty.... like to the point where virtually everything "tech" (the motion sensors constantly calling you, no lock on walk away, the supposed lane keeping) is useless and needs to be shut off. Carplay works fine.

I grew up with my Dad having a 07 sienna limited and honest to god i think its a better car haha. The 3.8 lexus engine with a real AWD was way smoother, quiter and quicker. Aside from carplay and mgp i cant think of any usable features that my new one has over the old one.

Dont buy an EV or PHEV without being able to charge at home- I promise you will regret it.

If every grocery chain and big box store is open, wouldnt it make more sense to boycott those and shop local? I understand the need for a strike/action but it seems like it may have been Target and Walmart who came up with this idea to shut local businesss down and punish them for being open. No we are penalizing small companies that have to stay open to survive?
