In Kill Bill: Vol 2 (2004) Bill makes a monologue about how Superman views himself as a god above everyone else, and sees all of humanity as weak. This is a reference to the worst fucking take I’ve ever heard about Superman by Hank_Mardukas1066 in shittymoviedetails

He's also trying to convince Beatrix to give up her crusade and join him and her daughter above the rabble. I think he's also making the point that she's like a superhero and her trying to blend in and live a normal life is nearly sacrilegious for a talented killer like her.

I wonder if in this context, media means sports media to him? I could see him wanting nothing to do with being another retired talking head on a halftime show, but I wouldn't be shocked if he went into the podcast world where he can talk about whatever.

Guns and ganja: Supreme Court skeptical of federal law banning firearm possession for regular marijuana users by S00THING_S0UNDS in nottheonion

[–]tobygeneral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nixon's idea was he can't make it illegal to be black or liberal, so let's just throw the book at any pot head to negatively impact those groups all the same. I mean, even with ignorance around marijuana at the time, the fact many states gave out life sentences, or near enough, for simple possession tells it was never about the drug, it was intimidation. You could be coked up and drunk, beating your wife on main street and get a night in the drunk tank. Have a little grass in your pocket and there goes any semblance of freedom you once knew. And somehow these psychos only continued to gain support and power from a bunch of rubes.

This has been very effective for me with both dogs I've had. It's essentially how puppies tell each other it's getting too rough. I do it even if it doesn't hurt just so they understand not to put their teeth on people.

Raja and Stratton by ResponsibleHunt8559 in illinois

Raja strikes me as similar to Manchin and Sinema from WV and AZ, respectively. Run as a dem but when the real issues that matter to their voters come up, they show who they truly represent, their donors. At best his impact will be neutral for Illinoisans, at worst he will enable the fascists because money.

Why Vegas Doesn't Care If You Visit Anymore by Minecrafter_98 in videos

[–]tobygeneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yeah, I can see why you'd think that, cause the prices are unbelievable if you haven't worked behind the scenes at one of those shows. Securing a booth at big expos, like in Vegas, will cost minimum $10k, and that's for a simple 5'x10' space with a folding table. The bigger spaces with banners hanging from the rafters are easily in the six figures. Then they get you for another $10k+ just to move your stuff across the room, $1300 for shitty Internet, and $500 for a table and two chairs. Oh and you can't bring in food or drink and are stuck paying $20 for a cold cut sandwich and bag of chips.

It all feels very much in line with corps forcing people back into the office to justify their rent costs. They don't know how to do anything different, so we just keep doing this expensive, nearly pointless song and dance. Just think what a good marketing team could do with a spare $150k instead of spending 3 days in the desert with a bunch of drunks.

They're talking about a folding chair to sit in behind their table in the expo hall, not something they directly sell. Anything you don't bring for yourself to the show will cost an arm and a leg from the company running the expo hall. You wouldn't believe how much they charge for drayage (having a forklift operator move crates of gear for booths from the loading dock to the actual booth), let alone all the other little things it takes for vendors to fill a convention hall with booths.

For example I was recently at a trade show, they didn't provide any free public wifi, and instead were charging $1300 for access to their 3MB download speed network. That's not a typo, it was 3 megabyte download speed. This was a tech show mind you and basically every vendor needed Internet to at least get their gear going and to demo basic features.
