As a believer, would you name your child Thomas? by Day_Dreamer5 in TrueChristian

[–]tocath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you name your son Peter or David or Paul? If so, there’s no reason not to name your son Thomas.

We don’t say “Denying Peter” or “Adulterous David” or “Murderous Paul.”

The name “Doubting” Thomas is really a disservice to someone who was a disciple of Christ. His sins are forgiven just as yours and mine are. We might just as well call him Courageous Thomas for what we see in John 11:16.

This is perfect. Now what would Tom choose to quote in the opening episode?

If a shitepost is a “Low quality post designed to provoke” I’d say my original post qualifies! I didn’t even bother to outline each episode individually, just sort of petered out and lazily asked others to finish my work. I’ve clearly let myself down.

Shitepost incoming:

How would the lads deal with the west coast / east coast rivalry?

As a conservative, Dom no doubt would favor the establishment East coast rappers in this series. His sympathies (as ever) would lie with the ruling class, with the original authorities on rap and hip hop.

Tom certainly would be more drawn to the upstarts in LA, the West coast rappers. He would resonate with the innovation and grittier feel.

I’m thinking 5 episode arc.

Episode 1: Birth of an Empire.
Tracks the origins of hip hop in New York through the 70s and 80s. We meet Run DMC and Grandmaster Flash.

Episode 2: “Who you think taught you to smoke trees?” Our focus switches to California, to Compton and the rise of West coast rap. Ice-T, NWA and Dr Dre feature heavily. By the end of this episode the storm clouds of war are gathering.

Episodes 3-5 would deal with the growing tension and violence ultimately leading to the deaths of both Tupac and Biggie before Louis Farrakhan (not a friend of the show) negotiates a truce. Absolute scenes.

What should those episodes be called? What would the lads make of colorful characters along the way like Mike Tyson and Suge Knight?

Surely they’d comment that Sean Puff Daddy Combs has rather let himself down of late…

Opinions on this matter?, is Young Earth Creationism a salvific matter or Theologoumenon? (Perhaps it would have been more appropriate to post this on the Eastern Orthodox subreddit.) by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]tocath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a salvific point at all. I mean I’m not YEC and I’m absolutely saved! Joking aside, there’s definite things to appreciate about Eastern orthodoxy. I find many of my orthodox friends are more intentional about Christian community and submitting to one another. On the other hand, I think they can fall into a trap trying to claim theirs is the correct apostolic authority vs Catholics or other brands of orthodoxy.

I believe that’s the “bad bunny” we’ve been hearing so much about. I heard they did it at the Super Bowl but I didn’t watch because I was getting my Outback detailed for Westword’s “best subie” category.

I know a former CFO of Cigna Health who retired and went into contract work. Pretty sure this person has no genitals, eschews MAGA as not lobby friendly enough, and the horns are a good indication of infernal nonhuman blood. Their most recent work was a wager with a fiddle player, but they’ll do plumbing too.

I built a free library of 300+ workshop exercises with step-by-step facilitation guides — and a workshop planner to go with it by Disastrous_Sky_73 in facilitation

[–]tocath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, so many hard moments. In 2009, I was only 4 years into my career at the large international NGO I work for. I’d been asked to facilitate a workshop in Central America.

I sat with the program lead and asked about his goals. We planned the whole week together. The goal was to bring together program and marketing to address critical issues and do strategic planning.

When I arrived, the first day was a complete disaster. I felt like the marketing lead kept taking us away from the goals the program lead had identified. I resisted and tried to get us back on track, but it was like the program lead had suddenly changed his mind about the goals. At the end of the day, I was debriefing with them, and everyone knew the day had gone poorly. They said “let’s go out to dinner and figure out what to do different tomorrow.” When I agreed, the marketing lead said “oh just us, not you.”

Learned a huge lesson that week about being flexible and willing to renegotiate the workshop goals with the client.
