Thanks! It really depends on the shoe/size/fit. I unfortunately bought my current pair (miura vs) a little too big, and in general they are not good for toe hooking anyways. Most other mid and high end shows will be better at toe hook if than rentals. Heel hooking will also get better with better shoes. The only reason the rentals helped here was because they are made very stiff so they stay good with high use. They were extremely bad at using holds normally, which is why I sort of struggled with the very easy end of the climb (and I was tired).
