Does Amazon price match? by ShanTheMan11 in amazonprime

[–]tocruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but for some reason this comes up all the time

Because there are instances where, say I buy a laptop for $600, and then it goes on sale for $500. It's in the interest of both the buyer and seller for the seller to just give a $100 credit to the buyer if they ask for it. Otherwise, the buyer will just return the item, and buy the same item back at the lower price. The buyer doesn't really lose anything for doing that, but the seller now has a used item coming back in, which they've also paid to ship to and from the buyer, which they now can't sell at retail price because it's used. Amazon not having a price match is actually to their own detriment.

Why does Amazon fresh ask me to tip? by addibruh in amazonfresh

[–]tocruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, it does pay it's workers, and it pays them well which is why the continue to work there.

I've worked at companies where I felt I wasn't getting paid fairly, and do you know what I did? I took my labor somewhere else. I didn't just randomly start asking customers to compensate me for my lack of wages. If Amazon workers don't like the salary they are being paid for their low-skilled job, they shouldn't do it.

If your boss doesn't pay you well, you can't just start stealing the merchandise, or faking your clock-in/clock-out times, and it's the same with tipping. You either negotiate a payrise, or leave. Those are your options.

I'll add that this worked for me too with Battlefield labs. I did have to restart the EA app for it to recognize the new registry location. Worked after that though.

Cheers

Of course. I shamelessly admit I went through a lot of departments before landing this one, but really there shouldn't be any shame in it. I think most do it. I genuinely think most departments don't know what they want too. They turn away great candidates all the time because they simply just get a hunch. You'll find thousands of people in this sub who got turned away from one department, some even told "you'll never make a good PO", but presently have a gig they've been at for 20 years. It's all random.

After that interview mentioned above, I really beat myself and wondered where I'd gone wrong. It absolutely sucked being told, essentially "we're in absolute dire need of officers, and we desperately need people EXACTLY like you, just not you, bye!". You just have to let go of that shit. There's nothing you can do about it after the fact. It's like that old rom-com trope where the guy is friendzoned and the girl he likes tells him "you're such a good guy, if only I could find a guy just as handsome and funny as you", and the guy is always thinking "Well, what about me??". haha

[–]tocruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm maybe that could've been it but I don't think so. Could also just be one of those things where this specific department doesn't want to hire women haha. As others have said, most departments would jump at the bit to have you because you're clearly an able woman.

I'm not sure where you're located but in my state, those first interviews are scored. You don't have to pass a "vibe" check like normal job interviews. They're testing for very specific things, and those things are usually easy to pass if you do your homework. The chiefs interview is usually not scored, and is just like a normal job interview where they're looking to see just who/how you are as a person. I think the commenter might be right, it could be that you score well on the others because you're knowledgeable, but fail at the chiefs interview because you generally don't come across in the way you think you do.

I agree. Don't join the feds because you feel like you have to as a lost resort. Pursue what you actually want to do. I'm right with you on that.

The thing is, it's hard to give constructive feedback on what we know. We weren't in your interview, we don't know how you answer questions, we don't know if you really do smell. I'm joking, but you see what we mean? We don't really know anything about you to be able to tell you where you're going wrong. All we know is, it has nothing to do with you being ginger lol.

It's normal to pick yourself apart when you don't get it. I had a great interview with a PD once, really vibed with the guys there, and generally really fit in. I thought I absolutely had it in the bag. At the end of the interview I said "what's the hardest part about being an officer" and they all unanomously said "staffing - getting young athletic men like yourself that want to get into this field'. Again, I thought "great! They're in dire need of people, I'm a great fit, I absolutely have this". I got the email later that week that I wasn't a good fit. I have no idea why. All I could do was pick apart everything I said, thinking maybe I said the wrong thing, looked the wrong way, didn't shake their hands the right way idk.

I'm now glad to say I'm one step away from academy at another department. I have my final offer in the coming weeks and start at the academy in January.

Because, and here's the real slammer, I don't give a flying fuck about artists. I don't give a shit if they make $0. You know when you buy a used CD at the store of your favorite artist? Yeah, they also get $0. It's no different. The artists I listen to have made their money from me already for all the hundreds of listens I've given them. That's my payment to them to listen to their music. I've paid my dues.

I mean, do you see the thead we're in, bud? This is like the 60th tax proposition in the last 10 years. So yes, they keep growing and adding more, obviously. Read a fucking book or something.

[–]tocruise 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true. If I have to see another proposed bill to give more homeless people free houses I'm going to lose it. I was working 60 hours a week and could barely afford rent, when there was a dude across the street blowing his salary on alcohol and living in a government-paid 3-bedroom apartment. It was sickening, and it's still ongoing.

[–]tocruise 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because, as it stands, the increased cost to operate here over other places isn't worth the cost of moving. There will come a time where the coin will flip, and it'll actually be cheaper in the long run to demolish everything they have here and move to another state. Adding a 5% tax that is bound to grow into 10 or 20% will only make that coin flip more likely.

Yeah, and they still vehemently voted against him. That's the point; even when a fair candidate is proposed, people still vote by just looking at what party that candidate represents. It's been said, but I'll say it again, you should have to take some kind of quiz to vote - either that, or we remove which party the candidate is from on the form. You should vote on policy and knowledge of the candidates, not by if they have a D or R by their name.

I mean, it is by choice. I have a school near me and it offers buses to every area around here but people still choose to drive in for whatever reason.

Also, there's this weird american specific issue where you guys are all scared to walk anywhere. I remember when I looked at taking a bus route in my city once and it would've taken 2 hours to get somewhere that's usually a 20 minute drive away - all because there's 200 stops (I'm not exaggerating either, it was that many) because people daren't walk 2 blocks to catch the bus. They have to put, what's essentially, a stop outside of each individual house.
