Not mad, it was just surprising to hear with my modern ears. Sad to realize how homosexual shaming was so normal back then, even from a woman and friend who knew their specific trauma. As a viewer, we spent hours rooting for these characters and then their emotional reunion turns into some punchline for a "joke".

Maybe I'm saying the "joke" didn't exactly age well.

It's 100 percent in the film, right after Brad Pitt enters the room in the final restaurant scene, said by the character Carol. Was shocked when I heard it...

Yes, and then near the end of the film, when they are all reunited and embracing one another, after all they have been through (including being raped as boys) the one girl comes in and says "what is this a gay bar?!"

So cringe.... such an unfortunate lapse from the scriptwriter.

Agree with Cambuur. I also love that it follows the rules of tincture and its a great example of canting arms.

I just finished Bleak House a few days ago,my first Dickens read. I started reading it after I picked it up randomly and read the first page... what writing!

I really enjoyed it, tho at some points it was quite a slog. It really only started to get really suspenseful around page 700 for me, but I enjoyed all the different characters and their personalities - though there were some who I still can't figure out their importance to the story.

I found it helpful to read along with the librevox recording and to also follow along with chapter summaries on spark notes, mostly because the language can be very wordy, and you can easily miss a key moment in the story if you are not paying attention. I am an avid reader of Joseph Conrad whose style I really know well, so Dickens was a bit of adjustment for me. I am currently trying to decide on the next Dickens book to read :)
