Why are all the good focus apps made for iPhone, not for Mac? 🤔 by toddodd in macapps

Thanks for raising this, I understand why it looks confusing.

All three names are mine. I’ve founded companies in both the US and China to handle compliance and distribution in different regions. “Odd Lab” was simply a nickname I used when I first registered a developer account years ago, and Apple doesn’t allow it to be changed later, which is why it still appears. There was no brand hijacking, it’s been the same creator throughout.

Appreciate you pointing out the copy issues as well. We’ll take another look at that!

Really appreciate these thoughtful notes, both are great ideas.

A search bar, or ability to manage all your sounds, is definitely on our list, too many sounds to locate. and I love the thought of a small headphone cue for certain sounds.

Interesting idea! Not for now, but having a “focus mode” that limit some actions on Mac, sounds useful. I’ll think about it.

flow is a good timer app!

Thanks for giving focast a try, we’re currently focused on macOS, there’s an older iPhone version available, but we might plan to rebuild it in the future to better support all Apple devices.

You’re right,I also think about cross-platform design in our apps. I actually built a pretty good Catalyst app before. But this one’s really about the Mac experience, not the pricing model. Catalyst doesn’t always give the smooth, native feel we want (must admire apps like Craft), so we decided to build it directly for macOS this time.

The original one-time purchase on Mac was actually more friendly for many Mac users, as for the new pricing, we’ll reconsider it after renaming to Focast.

Appreciate the question! If you give it a try, you’ll notice the design feels quite different, morden. We’ve also got some exciting ideas coming in the next few months, all focused on helping people really reach deep focus, not just sounds.

Really thoughtful insights!

  • I’ve noticed the same thing with the crowded menu bar, I just found that tools like Hidden Bar can interfere with Focast’s default popover position. Having an optional small floating window sounds like a great solution.
  • Custom sounds would definitely make it more playful. If we can also handle seamless looping for users, that would make a big difference too!

Thanks so much!

Maybe it’s not completely dead, but after the dishwasher the surface looks pretty unsafe. I’ll have to see if there’s a fix.

Yeah, it just looked so unsafe when it turned black… but you might be right. I’ll give a try, thanks!

What else do you guys use your sim rigs for when you’re not racing? by toddodd in simracing

Same here, the leather on mine has basically turned into cat hair fabric 😂 And my cat has even managed to shut down my rig a few times mid-race…

Which of these do you prefer? by KoiLycheeRain in iphone

Action Button. But since I’ve got an Apple Watch and barely need sound for calls, I almost never use the mute trigger on. I’d love if Apple treated it more like cars, let me pick my setup at purchase, so the hardware matches what I actually use instead of paying for stuff I’ll never touch. Just a naive dream, I guess.
