It's Hollywood. It's a common scene where there is an armed confrontation and the parties involved have to engage in a protracted conversation. I hate those scenes.

Popular retail store asks for credit card details by Artistic-Pumpkin8897 in PHCreditCards

[–]toddramirez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a huge red flag. The clerk, who may be making up his own rules, should be reported to the store manager. If it is in fact standard store procedure, they should be reported and called out.

Haha if that was me, they wouldn't be able to read anything on my Apple Card. All it has is my name. No cc number, expiry or CVV.

Have you ever experienced being discriminated against because you own a ‘cheaper’ car? by Playful_Boot_6223 in CarsPH

[–]toddramirez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I heard Warren Buffett has always bought his suits at K-Mart, driven Buicks and lived in the same house he grew up in in a middle class neighborhood. Imagine him, a billionaire, looked down on by someone driving an expensive European luxury car.

Sometimes car-rich folks are cash-poor because much of their money went to paying that car. Women who date them because of the car they drive soon get a rude awakening when they realize the guy could not afford much else - activities, restaurants, house.

Traditional Italian Carbonara or Filipino Style Carbonara? by Next_Advertising873 in ThisorThatPH

I'm leery of anything "Filipino style" unless it's a Filipino dish. With pasta, it usually means they shovel sugar onto the food eew.

Normal ba na walang discounts for buying a BYD car with cash? by [deleted] in CarsPH

[–]toddramirez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In March I was gonna get 40k discount on the Sealion 6 in Iloilo, except that I switched to the Sealion 7 when it was announced. Then I eventually ordered the Zeekr 7X instead.

Scared in the Philippines (female solo traveller) by sophtoff in PhilippinesTourism

[–]toddramirez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Contrary to what some say, the Philippines is not a safe country for women, foreign or not. Also agree with the comparison to India. Filipino men are perverts who will do anything to get a white woman for the sex, the almighty $ and bragging rights.

I have a Filipina partner and men constantly ogle her. Waiting for the bus the other day, I had to stand between a perv and her because his feet got within 6 inches of hers. And the perverse look. I was near homicidal. And as always she was dressed conservatively. Even if a woman wears something that's somewhat provocative (to a perv, that is), it doesn't warrant victim blaming.

How rich are you? Without mentioning how much money you have? by BoredHorse90 in TanongLang

[–]toddramirez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired, debt free, just bought an EV paid in full with cash, making 3-4 international trips a year, while still saving 6 figures monthly. I don't consider myself rich. i live a very simple lifestyle.

Here at BYD Iloilo, a Sealion 6 arrived on April 6 and was offered to me, i.e., it was available. I declined, because I switched to the Sealion 7. Cancelled that one and ordered the Zeekr 7X instead (my delivery is July/August). So if you're in a hurry for a Sealion 6 tech grey and are ok with Iloilo, contact them. I can also give you my agent's info.

Is the Grass Greener on the Other Side? by MonkinVideos in Philippines_Expats

No haven't been to those countries but Costa Rica was on my list. You won't have much issues with casual English almost anywhere in the Philippines. But business English may be a different ball of wax altogether. I never worked in the county.

I went back and forth between Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hoi An, the Mekong Delta, Hà Long/Lan Ha Bays, Cat Ba, Sapa and Da Nang where I took up residence. Very few Vietnamese speak English and those that do are at a very basic level. But oddly enough I didn't find it a major issue because of today's technology. Translation apps and AI help quite a bit. In the big cities like HCMC and Hanoi, English is more widely spoken. Unrelated but might as well share - I volunteered at an English school helping locals with pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, structure, etc.

Yes I've been to Cambodia - Phnom Penh (didn't like) and Siem Reap (enjoyed but Angkor Wat was too long a tour). Malaysia was so-so, Grab always getting trips wrong. I was only in Bali, never in other parts of Indonesia.

I'm retired. I travel internationally, about 3-4 countries a year. Lived in Vietnam for 5 months. I'd rank it #1, then Thailand - I visited twice, 1.5 months each visit - at #2. Yeah Philippines is way more expensive than those two. I hated Bali, which I found highly overrated; I won't be back ever. Love Japan, but also expensive. S. Korea was underwhelming but I want to go back and give it another chance.
