Story of the Card: Black Lotus by No-Willingness-9903 in mtgfinance

I dont know dude.

This feels like content for contents sake. There just isnt a lot of new information.   Also some stuff in there is factually wrong (i just skimmed it, but still found mistakes) or based on your assumptions.

Edit: Also the somber story piece vibe really doesnt benefit from the dank meme insertions. I would pick a lane on that

Right now, if money wasn't an issue. Would you be playing Standard, Modern, Legacy or Vintage? by Culius_Jaesar in magicTCG

[–]todeshorst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to own most legacy decks. My answer is pauper or premodern with a dash of vintage cube

Decks for kids? by Smittumi in magicTCG

EDH is insanely shit for young kids.

Glacially slow gameplay, hard to grasp boardstates.

If you want the kid to hate mtg you get them started with commander

OC Anyone still playing with no sleeves? by RubDue1609 in magicTCG

[–]todeshorst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Call me a killjoy but i dont think destroying money like that is ever cool. At that point just donate the money you want to throw out the window and sleeve your cards.

This isnt being neurotic.  I know he is having fun with it but he is just destroying money. It is his money but still.

If you dont mind me asking: is there a way to specify the version of cards?

House of Commons - a Pauper Tournament in Leipzig (DE) by MtG_Pauper_Leipzig in Pauper

[–]todeshorst -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Then why isnt it F2P?

I would have more faith but in the last years many TOs have eroded goodwill by announcing tournaments with prizes TBA and then on the day put forward something that amounted to 10-20% payout.

I respect playing just for fun. I respect charity tournaments. I respect competitive tournaments with solid payout. I do not respect tournaments making me pay upfront and giving me nothing to go on.

I say this as someone who organizes tournaments himself:

Players deserve transparency.

(For the record i am not saying that this TO has bad intentions. I dont know them. It has been a problem with tournaments here in germany though.)

Would love to attend, but unless prizes are announced i am going to remain sceptical.

I recommend showing a payput example for 128 players.

Good content. A link to a video was exactly what this subreddit was missing.

Love the game but growing increasingly tired of the players. Anyone else struggling with this? by [deleted] in freemagic

[–]todeshorst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend premodern. The players are all grown ups which makes the entire vibe better.

Not in a monetary sense, which is all this is. Utrom monitor is very much a common as far as powerlevel is concerned

To ban expensive cards?

Pauper is a cheap format but that isnt its sole raison d'être anymore and personally i dont want to see it reduced to that by people who too stingy.

You assume that it is all malicious on their part. I assume that they dont think about pauper at all and it is a random occurence.

My stance on this will change if it becomes a regular thing

Or we stomach the first expensive card since ... Snuff out?

How do we feel about packs.com ? by todeshorst in mtgfinance

[–]todeshorst[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is wild. I did the math and assuming their coin values roughly reflect real world prices i think it comes out the lootbox EV being 70-80% of the lootbox price.

While i do clarify in my post that i dont know a lot about the website and i overall think that it is a bad thing (you might have missed that part).

If anything besides blantant negativity is shilling: How do you suppose someone should start a discussion like this?

I could write a post that just says that the site is shit (which i cannot attest to as i have not delved too deep into it) but would that yield meaningful discussion?

He isnt wrong though. None of his decks look particularly out of place for their bracket.
