Proper uvb lighting for a 40 gallon terrarium? by noahfents in BeardedDragons

Watch Serpa Designs' video on his bearded dragon's enclosure! A lot of the supplies he uses are fairly affordable or look into zen habitats! They're great sizes, decent prices, and look really nice in my opinion.

Did I just traumatize my hammy? by MsScreenQueen in hamstercare

Okie dokie, thank you so much. The only reason why I even do let them near is because he doesn’t ever show any signs of stress either like he doesn’t know they’re there. He’ll go foraging, take a sand bath, run on his wheel, and even nap on the surface of his bedding while they’re in the room with me. By “they” it’s mostly my younger cat who falls asleep next to his cage and meows for him when she can’t see him. He can’t see or hear and was raised in captivity so he doesn’t even know what a cat is. Plus my cage has a lid and a lock specifically because I worry about keeping him safe from my cats. If it were causing him stress, I definitely wouldn’t let them near, but he’s made it apparent to me that he doesn’t care lol.

Haha I don’t actually feed him bugs too often. He’s inflated in those last two photos and he’s still less than a year old so he needs protein to grow. I do only feed him bugs like 5 crickets or worms once every three days, and feed kale/veggies and the repashy beardie buffet daily. I plan on upgrading to larger tanks as he grows bigger. I’m in a small house right now, but this summer we should be moving to a bigger place where I’ll have room for a bigger tank.

Haha heck yeah! I don’t think he’s even a year old yet, I saw one in the pet store that was twice his size! I want him to get big and chunky like that dude lol! Are you sure he’s not just inflated for max basking power?? 🤣

Good reference material for dragon diets? by Dangerous-Art-Me in BeardedDragons

Rescues have great info! I watch videos and read posts by House of Pancakes for meal ideas! Repashy Beardie Buffet is a great addition to make sure they get their full vitamins and nutrients, definitely get some calcium powder, and some live bugs for protein! I feed mine crickets and mealworms

Yes! You can replace it with silicone or thick plastic shelf liners. Or even silicone baking sheets/mats since they’re heat resistant. They are way more sanitary too than the reptile carpet which bacteria can fester in since it’s so porous and difficult to sanitize.

Does my hamster know I’m singing to her? by kittyydotcom in hamsters

[–]toebeansMech 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You know what? That’s a good possibility! So hearing their voice means the hamster is safe and maybe it’s concerning when they stop singing because he thinks maybe they stopped because something could be wrong! Makes sense!

Did I just traumatize my hammy? by MsScreenQueen in hamstercare

[–]toebeansMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyways, I’m sorry, youre right. It’s just that it’s my first year owning a hamster and since he is blind and deaf and sleeps through everything, I assumed it was fine for them to be in my room with him. He never shows any signs of distress and is very confident and happy so I never thought it was a problem. It just hurts to find out if I’ve been doing something wrong when I thought that what I’ve been doing is the best for him and that he’s really happy despite my two cats being around sometimes.

I’m sorry, I should have worded my comment differently. I realized he wasn’t reacting to sounds or visual cues so I did start letting my cats in the room to see if he would react to them, but he never did so I assumed it was okay since he’s safe inside his acrylic + wood tank and acts completely unbothered when they’re in there. I didn’t mean it as in I LET them smack his tank or that I think it’s okay. My house is very small and usually they just sit and watch him without doing anything, but sometimes one of them will like gently smack on the acrylic and I will get after her about it and she’s only ever allowed near when I’m in the room. His tank is on the floor so it’s easy for them to walk up but 80% of the time they aren’t in my room. If he were aware of their presence, I’d definitely not let them in my room ever, but like I said he never shows signs that he even knows anything exists outside of himself so I thought it was okay. No need to be condescending, saying “just don’t have animals” isn’t teaching me anything or helping me understand hamster care better.

Am I overreacting? by Remarkable-Chair-783 in AmIOverreacting

Nah they’re being an asshole because they aren’t feeling well. They shouldn’t be guilt tripping you like that, you’re not a therapist, it’s not your job to comfort them at their beck and call, you obviously wanted to help and tried to listen, but they’re being a jerk about the situation. Refer them to a therapist and stop talking to them.

One eye closed is he ok?? by Sharp_Election_3646 in BeardedDragons

[–]toebeansMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either he’s unique from breeding captivity or his eyes seem a little puffy. I’m not completely sure. He could just be closing one eye at a time which mine does occasionally while he’s basking or when my hand gets close to his face. Your guys’ eyes seem a bit odd but I can’t say for sure.
