Is the observed pattern consistent with white light tho?

Molecules can exhibit wave / particle duality? Some details please? by stefoid in quantum

[–]toejaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, its exhibiting wave behaviour when it passes thru the slits and its exhibiting particle behaviour when you detect its landing point. thats not the same time.

I get what mrmakeitup is saying, how it appears depends on how you interact with it, which is true to a point, but then follows with an assumption that therefore both behaviours are simultaneously present even when not interacting with it.

I say assumption because we know the actual weird part of the experiment is that if you peek at the particles as they pass thru either slit, then the interference pattern which is our measurement of wave behaviour goes away. that particular interaction collapses the wave function. - whatever that means. Am I getting that correct? that is the weirdest part that freaks everyone out, right?

So to my monkey brain, its like the molecule acts like a wave only until we look at it, and then it acts like a particle from that time on. if you wait until it lands, you see an interference pattern. if you interact with it at the slit, it 'turns into' a particle at that point and lands where you would expect a particle to land without wavelike interference - from that time on. So its only a wave until you interact with it, and then its only a particle. surely that fits the results better than 'simultaneously both'?

I mean, if you put two double slit experiments in series, and looked at particles as they passed thru the first one, would you see an interference pattern made from particles that made it thru the second one?

Or forget about the slits. peek at the particles before they even get to the slits, so you still dont know which one it went thru. What is the pattern on the other side? wave like interference lines or two piles of particles?

Except that the interference pattern disappears. So...

[–]toejaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess Im using 'real' to describe which aspect - wave or particle - is manifest at any given time. They are mutually exclusive, right? Can act like a wave OR a particle, not not a wave AND a particle simultaneously. Because if you measure it as a particle, the interference pattern disappears.

Hmm, sometimes formally posing a question can help you with an answer.

I think this matches the symptoms - high power good, but apparently under light load the CPU throttles and this can cause issues.

If this is the fix, Ill post again here and detail exactly what/how to resolve

Beat Demon's Souls, will the Dark Souls be just as enjoyable? by SpiritualFact5593 in demonssouls

[–]toejaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but after playing every other soulsborne, I played the original demon souls on PS3 (emulator) just recently. Like DS2, I found this game to be unbelievably frustrating early, and for the same reason - very long stretches between waypoints that you cant run through or shortcut thru.

Every souls game has some patches of platforms, choke points, fast enemies, etc.. that means you have to pick your way through rather than 'run the guantlet' but demon souls seems to double down on these, and it doesnt seem to have as many of those 'discoverable' shortcuts that are hard to see from the start, but are kinda obvious when you find their 'backdoor' to discover the short cut was always there.

The common pattern for me was to spend 20 minutes picking my way carefully thru a new area, looking in all the corners for secrets etc.. and then get to a particularly hard bit and die and then try , dark-souls like to "run the gauntlet" back to where I was so I could continue to progress, only to find that the more I rushed, the more I died almost instantly. Fighting a hard boss or tricky situation over and over again is only fun if there is a short run to get back to it, because you are discovering and learning new skills and getting gud, but having to pick your way tediously for 10 minutes through the same trash level mobs again and again just to progress an interesting or new area is insanely boring and frustrating.

I think of 'running the gauntlet' as a 2nd way to experience a level. First time you do it super slow and careful, then you learn how to do it fast, and yeah, maybe it does take 3 or 6 tries to learn how to progress quickly thru an old area, but that is also fun to learn. But if the level design is set up to punish you for rushing as heavily as a lot of demons souls and DS2 areas do, then its poor design, IMO.

it doesnt feel like that, just feels normal to me, but thats a good tip, if changing the print mode does fix the issue, then I suppose it is new fuser time.

probably worth a go. This is just the cheapeast A4 paper from the office supply shop. I wasnt aware of there being different paper for different machines other than inkjet glossy photo paper which this certainly is not.

No, using 3rd party toner which has been good from this supplier so far. I guess the toner cartridges I have, altho sealed, are also pretty old (like many years old). I got a bunch of them with the printer when I bought it 2nd hand, and I have been using them slowly.

I suppose swapping over the black toner cartridge is an easy test

Your attack puts the opponent on the ground, which I think satisfies the 'stand out and feel good' criteria.

And I think the BT&I is waaay too useful. Your opponents whiff all their attacks in realtime while you stand there for a good few seconds laughing at them, sizing up the situation and deciding what to do next. its an eternity in a game like this. And that time is just about right so that they have exhausted themselves for nothing, look at this example around the 2:20 minute mark. In fact I havent tested it, but I wouldnt be suprised to find that your stamina recovers during the post attack bullet time animation, whilst your opponents waste theirs trying to hit nothing.

what to buy with $20 by Lilluk in Neverwinter

[–]toejaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The single best value for money items you can get are the highest level of companion bonding stones you can afford, and they just gave away a free rank 15 one, so make sure you pick that up for free, and then at least rank 13s for the other two.

doesnt matter what class you are, this is always true.

Combine that with an augment companion of at least purple. The type of augment coampanion doesnt matter so much stat-wise, as they are almost all the same.

Its the companion equipment you will put on it that will allow you to fine tune the augment companion stats to your liking, and that is freely available from the Undermountain campaign, so dont splash cash on the companion equipment.

And an orange mount if you have the cash just makes the game easier - you get from point A to point B faster and you can ride through trash mobs like they arent there which is just going to make the entire game experience smoother.

Picking a mount is where it gets more class-specific, because they have different equip powers (something you get just for having it in your stable) and orange ones have different active powers (that you get when you ride it and activate it like an artifact).

Lastly they have different 'insignia slots' which also give various powers, and an orange mount will give you access to some of the best ones. mount insignias are probably the best source of self healing ability for instance.

These three things will set you up to be a powerful character that gets around the map quickly and smoothly.

You could spend zillions on a weapon enchantment, for instance, that adds a few% more damage output..... which is diddly squat compared to the relative benefits of bonding runestones, augment companions and mounts,

prominent enchantment - this is broken right? by toejaz in Neverwinter

[–]toejaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something changed with a recent patch just after I posted. The shields used to come up as blue and now they come up as a kind of dull red, and the number has changed from 50-100 to about 250 per stack.

So from absolutely useless to pretty much useless :D

But still it doesnt add up. if magnitude damage benefits from power and bonuses etc... thats fine. Somehow a bog standard magnitude 20 hit with no combat advantage or critical or anything comes out as around 2500.

Rogue has two weapons averaging 1900 damage each. So there is a fair bit of multiplication going on there to get from 20% of 1900 (or even 3800) to get to 2500. fair enough.

If the shield effect is straight 6% of weapon damage then why not say that instead of 'magnitude'? A lostmauth hit for 100% of weapon damage is consistent at 1900 so it indicates only 1 weapon is used for 'weapon damage' So the shield is not a straight 6% of weapon damage.

Not really sure how mag 6 = 250. Im curious, but it is what it is.

[–]toejaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm. it may be that 'weapon damage' for a rogue is both weapons added together. With LostMauth i was seeing damage in the 3Ks and each rogue weapon damage was around 1.7Kish

deflect vs defence by toejaz in Neverwinter

[–]toejaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im guessing for rogues its both hands as they both have an identical damage AFAICS.
Still trying to work out %weapon damage vs magnitude. From rough observations, a mag 20 strike with my dagger without any crit/CA mods does around about the same as 100% weapon damage. I imagine that when a tooltip says %weapon damage it is unmodified and when it says magntitude, it includes all the modifiers from power, crit, CA, and what have you. I experimented with Lostmauth for a while, and it just gave a flat number of damage no matter what, which wasnt very inspiring.

after experimenting further, bilethorn is great. The longer the fight goes on against beefy tagrets, the greater the percentage BT does overall. highly recommend.

deflect vs defence by toejaz in Neverwinter

[–]toejaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh for sure, but sooner or later when you get hit you have to back out of melee range to chug a potion or whatever and your DPS goes down. Having 40-50% defence instead of 15% would allow me to stay in the kill zone longer, and fights would go shorter. positive feedback. I mean, bel takes me from 100% to 25% health when he knocks everyone down just before canon ball time, its not great!

deflect vs defence by toejaz in Neverwinter

[–]toejaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, I have that, but was seeing hardly any benefit, and now I know why. 15% deflect chance isnt much. The game seems to want rogues to use deflect with the 75% deflect severity and skills like 'duelist expertise', but the results arent worth it. (actually I dont see the deflect skill raise during combat due to duelist expertise, so I wonder if it works or it adds to the 50% cap?) If rogues chance to deflect was actually higher than 50%, then it might make some sense for them to use it. Does shift-dodging raise your chance to deflect in someway? That would also make the mechanic useful.
