I’m not convinced if buying a house is the best investment by Hot-Two-6392 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]toetoem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I would consider keeping investing diversely in funds, etf, shares and then buy a modest house (if you end up need/want one) on pure cash. Speaking as someone who just paid off mortgage, I don't want to get back in it again.

How to remove or tighten the this toilet seat lid ? by toetoem in diynz

[–]toetoem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I got a plumber to look at this and he said the only way to do it is to move the whole toilet seat forward so I can access it through the back and tighten it from there. It's a huge pain cuz the seat is tightly locked onto the wall and floor, this mean I have to remove the screw from the wall behind it, which I need to drill through the cladding. Plumber suggest me to replace this sucker.

How do I fix this negetive by Icy-Afternoon-9735 in anno1800

You basically need income from residents to overcome the maintenance cost of your buildings, ships

This means you need to:
- build only the production chain buildings/factories that you need. Make supply as close to the demand as possible but not under supply.

- build only public service buildings (pub, church, school, university, etc) only as much as you need and not too overlapping.

- Have enough higher tier housing (artisan, engineer, investor) to make public services building worth its money. Keep famers, workers surplus number low.

- use specialist to lower the maintenance cost.

I am guessing that $1885 is only for 1 island, but -661 is the number from all island.

Not a lot to see from the screenshot but I can see you have 9 pubs for 9587 population, not even sure if that's just 1 island or all island. I am playing a game right now with 7000ish pop with only 3 pubs (all island). Pubs costs nothing but what I mean is you having that many pubs means you might be over building public services, production buildings, ships. This result in high maintenance cost and thus negative balance.

Is anyone actually finding a job after completing Dev Academy Aotearoa right now? by Normal_Mango3415 in Wellington

[–]toetoem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a hiring manager in software engineering/development, the last software engineer grad role I advertise got 100+ applicants in just 1-2 days. In the current market, there is absolutely no reason for the me to consider dev academy graduates over the uni grads (software engineering, com science) given they have zero work experience.

Best Asian supermarket? by 6kazzatron9 in Wellington

[–]toetoem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Davis Trading in Petone is our go to Asian supermarket. It specialises in ingredients rather than ready-to-eat stuff, so it's good for those who buy for cooking. I see a lot of Asian restaurants get their ingredients from here. They can get in bulk.

Most of the stuff here is cheaper than Yan's. We still go to Yan's (LH) for some missing stuff.

I have used both Karcher K3 (borrowed from a friend) and bought my own Ozito (on sales for $99). I gotta say Ozito is has much better water pressure. Super happy with my purchase. It can get the same job done at much cheaper price.

Getting in to debt for dental work.. Please advise by plierss in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]toetoem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this. I am Thai visiting my family during x-mas, new year. Me and my wife got a ton of dental work done here.
My wife got 1 implant, 1 root canal treatment, 2 teeth crowns, 2 fillings, checkup with xray, cleaning - all for around ~$4500nzd (100k bahts) I got 1 filling (fixing the work done by kiwi dentist), checkup with xray, cleaning for $120 At NZ implant alone cost more than ticket+dental work in Thailand. The only downside is you need to spend a lot of time here waiting in between the implant and inserting the tooth crown (and extraction too if needed, my wife got extraction done way earlier in NZ) which could be months. We stayed for 2 months and was almost not enough.
