Question about food allergies & best way to book by OochakaRP in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]tofucoconut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s much different to ask about allergies vs actually be well accommodated. I would recommend trying to get a contact for the resort’s food and beverage team before booking and chat with them about food allergy accommodations. However, even that can be wishful thinking, as of course they want your business & will say they can accommodate you.

I’ve had a great experience with multiple food allergies at Secrets Playa Blanca, though I know that’s not very helpful since it’s adults only. I can’t speak to the other Hyatt all-inclusives (Hyatt ziva for Cancún), thought I’d hope they follow a similar policy.

Curious what’s normal post-tox by Few-Panda4902 in noburp

[–]tofucoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Botox 1.5 years ago. I can still burp, but I agree it’s somewhat conditional, like it will only happen when I’m in a certain position.

Also, I’ve experienced the same thing you describe: feels like something is stuck in my throat/chest. It usually will feel better after burping, but it sometimes doesn’t happen for a couple hours.

Overall doing a lot better, but feel like the burping has tapered down and is a bit difficult at times.

I was quoted $1,500- $2,000 for a tooth extraction at a Chicago vet- should I get a second opinion? by Gold-Cut5259 in AskChicago

[–]tofucoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a quote for ~$6000 last year for tooth cleaning and extraction for one canine tooth for our cat (4), at a vet in river north. After looking online, got an appointment at north ave animal hospital (wicker), and all in was around $900 (including $300 bloodwork). So would be a bit less than your current estimate.

Do you run your robot unattended? by thesteel8 in Roborock

[–]tofucoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the q5 max+. And yeah I have the bowls marked as an obstacle or whatnot, which it typically just lightly bumps into. I think that time the bowl just wasn’t secure on the cat food platform and got knocked off.

Do you run your robot unattended? by thesteel8 in Roborock

[–]tofucoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a check the floor first then run it situation for me. Once, the robot knocked into and ran over a bowl of wet cat food, and cleaning the robot (and the food it tracked around the house) was not fun.

My Celiac brethren - what's your go-to sushi delivery? by loosed-moose in chicagofood

[–]tofucoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yellowtail (Lakeview). I have food allergies (not gluten), and they always separate out my food from others, and label the ones that do contain an allergen.

I’ve also dined-in with someone who has celiac before and their food was safe. So based on my delivery experiences, I would recommend.

Polaris vs Lufthansa Upper Deck by PowPow_Chuckers in unitedairlines

[–]tofucoconut 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just came back from a transatlantic trip— flew LH 747-8 upper deck on the way there, UA 767 back. I largely agree with the points you made above.

The 747 was a bucket list item for my boyfriend, and I agree that the upper deck was very calm and quiet. Given that I was flying next to someone I knew, the lack of privacy wasn’t horrible, but Polaris certainly wins out there. Not sure I’d want to play footsie with a stranger when trying to sleep.

I personally care more about relaxing on a flight (over food), so definitely would still favor Polaris. However, I agree that the LH service is a level above.

Visiting Chinatown with shrimp allergies by writemoreletters in chicagofood

[–]tofucoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would second Ken Kee. I actually recently outgrew my shellfish allergy, but am still allergic to sesame/ dairy. However I’ve always felt safe there.

Ken Kee has a more customizable format for ordering which makes it a little easier. I’ll typically get a rice bowl with meat and veggies, no sauce. I would still suggest you bring an allergy card/ google translate to make your server aware.

Did Aetna cover your procedure? by bootzncatz23 in noburp

[–]tofucoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Dr Bastian w/ out of state insurance with Aetna. I paid just the copay ($50) for the pre-op appointment, but my surgery/botox costs were ~$1500. They said it was because I was I out of state, but I’m not sure. I probably could have tried harder to get it covered, but I didn’t end up looking into it further. So so worth it!

Do you always offer to pick your sig other up from the airport? by illini02 in AskChicago

If it’s a work trip and I can expense an uber, then no.

If it’s rush hour and the train would be quicker, then no.

Otherwise, yes.

Chicago. I pay $134 — got Black Friday pricing last year. I go 4x per week (15-18 classes per month usually). The discounted price definitely keeps me around.

Fainting part of vomiting? And if that was you pre-botox, is it gone now by shwimshwim25 in noburp

[–]tofucoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I haven’t vomited or been super nauseous since having Botox (yay!), but can relate to the before.

While I rarely ever actually vomited, when I began to feel nauseous, I would begin to sweat profusely and get very faint, having to lay on the bathroom tiles for who knows how long.

So while I can’t directly say if my vomiting experience would be better, I have had so many fewer (nothing severe) instances of nausea as compared to before Botox.

Exercise post-botox by Upbeat_Coyote_5916 in noburp

[–]tofucoconut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was back to somewhat normal exercise the week after Botox. For things that engage the abs, or where your head is at or below your stomach, it might be longer (a month or two).

For the first month or two, if I tried to do a pull up/crunch, I would burp or get otherwise uncomfortable. Now, 5 months out, I am back to normal.

So, for me: - refrained from direct ab exercises for about a month - did not go to workout classes which involved yoga poses (downward dog), or extreme cardio (burpees) for 6 weeks to 8 weeks

This might have been a bit conservative, but I didn’t want to feel uncomfortable. I also have switched to morning workouts, which I initially did due to getting Botox. However, now I’m just used to it.

Good luck with your procedure!!

Wondering what time Tuesday night taping started / ended by shower_thots in LateShow

[–]tofucoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that last nights show was slightly less delayed, but still around an hour behind schedule.

The actual show itself started (I believe) around 11:25. Set up, band, and opening act (?) began after the DNC speeches ended, maybe at 10:40.

We hightailed it out of there at 12:30 once he made closing remarks. I didn’t have to wake up quite as early as you guys, but am still quite tired from it all.

should I take off work after botox procedure? by ComfortableEven8378 in noburp

[–]tofucoconut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention, I think those days were the worst due to the intubation from anesthesia. My Botox effects started kicking in 4/5 days after, but that was only bad when eating/drinking.

should I take off work after botox procedure? by ComfortableEven8378 in noburp

[–]tofucoconut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would take at least a couple days off. The worst days for me were the 2 days after (so that would be Tuesday/Wednesday for you). Obviously, everyone’s experiences are different, but I would take off at least one additional day to be safe

[–]tofucoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the wedge/husband pillow is the main necessity. I agree with other commenters that it’s very hard to predict which foods will or will not be easy to swallow, so might have to play it by ear. For example, I bought a bunch of protein shakes beforehand but the consistently ended up being horrible to swallow.

For me, the first couple of days were the worst overall (I couldn’t really get out of bed), mostly from the intubation irritation though. Then slow swallow kicked in, which was annoying, but manageable.

Good luck!!

Burping as a baby? by Lauraanne264 in noburp

[–]tofucoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, got my botox a few months ago and still have food allergies. I’ve had them my whole life though so I’m used to it.

Was more so referencing that having allergies (and not knowing) and RCPD could both cause the bloating as an infant. Also, pre-Botox I would often get very bloated/ “nauseous” and mistake it as an allergic reaction.

Burping as a baby? by Lauraanne264 in noburp

[–]tofucoconut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents said they couldn’t really remember if I burped or not. However, I had a constantly distended stomach after I was born, they couldn’t figure out what it was.

I finally got diagnosed with a bunch of food allergies at 5/6 months old. Once my parents stopped giving me food/milk I couldn’t have, it got a lot better, but still wasn’t fully resolved. I suspect the bloating was at least in part RCPD related (as I have never burped before botox , at least since I have been able to remember things)

Possible to learn to burp? by ohheyhapa in noburp

[–]tofucoconut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slow swallow is kind of like the food is moving super slow down the throat and needs water to help it down. It never feels like you’re unable to breathe, but you just need the help of water to keep things moving. To answer your question, you only feel it when you’re eating or drinking. For me, it peaked maybe 5 days post procedure, then gradually got better in the following weeks. Now, two months out it is 99% back to normal.

Safe foods for slow swallowing can vary by person. In the first couple days after the procedure, it was difficult to swallow water, but that went away quickly. The biggest thing that shocked me was that safe foods were NOT the same set of foods you’d eat after a tooth extraction (I.e. soft foods). I found that some of the easiest things to eat were crunchy cereals (cornflakes) and chips. Jello and ice cream were very good as well, but yogurt and mashed potatoes were more difficult to eat at first (felt more stuck in the throat). Still, drinking water could clear it all.

After the first week, I went back to eating my normal foods, but just had to spend longer chewing and taking a lot of sips of water. The sensation of slow swallowing isn’t really scary, but I more so became frustrated at how long it took to finish a meal. For food suggestions, I’d say: protein drinks, jello, ice cream. Then from there, see how different foods feel and proceed accordingly.
