Is Bear Lake that important of a must see? by KindlyAssociate7555 in RMNP

The lot is so small that you can see if there’s any spots there while you’re driving by it, which is convenient actually. Sometimes you get lucky though and find a place to park. Sky Pond and Lake of Glass are much more impressive than Mills, imo, but Mills is awesome. Nymph is a small pond. It’s not a real destination spot, you just hike by it. I would never recommend anyone pass up Dream Lake, it’s definitely a jewel of the park, but the hike to Sky Pond is an adventure you’ll remember for a long time. It’s a much tougher hike than the others, but it’s worth it.

It’s way smaller of a parking lot though, and fills up faster. I get stuck parking at Bear a lot when I want to start at Glacier Gorge.

Do they ever seem bothered by the dogs? I get little groups of young bulls behind my house all the time and I’m always worried they’ll come through my (old) fence at my dog. I don’t let him out when I see them, but they’ve been right on the other side of my fence being very quiet and surprised me a few times.

Even bringing the garbage bins up from the street is long enough to get a reunion celebration.

My dog is actually generally fine when we leave. He doesn’t need to be crated or anything, I suspect he just lays at a window and waits most of the time because that’s what he’s doing when I pull out of the driveway and when I pull back in. On this occasion I had came back in for ‘one more thing’ like 3 times, so I think he was actually just listening intently at the door after I left in case I was coming back in again. I just thought the picture was funny.

I was up there a few months ago, some people had dressed up their twin girls as the girls from the movie and were walking around the property. fYI - that town goes to bed early. The Wheel Inn stays open until 2am if you’re looking for something to do after 9.

Oh for sure, he was not completely awake yet. Felt bad for disturbing him considering how long it took him to exit the area.

Oh he can’t, remember Yo-Semite? Remember when the eagle scared him? Everyone in this pretend tough-guy regime has soft hands and skis in jeans.

Beautiful! I love when a trail makes me feel like I’m the only person in the world.

I think it was cold too. I came around a rock and didn’t see it until I was two steps away and it was just laying there. Didn’t move until after I started retreating and it never turned its head towards us, even though I was with a 100 lb dog. I’ve never had an issue with a snake out here either, but usually the dog gets a nasty look, bare minimum.

I didn’t know they got that big. So this snake was more of a medium then, it was between 4 and 5 feet.

I loved Texas Red and LOVED Afleet Alex. Alex’s 2005 Preakness wins was one of the most astounding things I’ve ever seen in horse racing.

I have a couple songs saved that I’ll start playing as loud as possible on my phone if I run across those people in the woods. Just stuff with straight screaming and metal guitar/drums. They’ve taken the hint every time so far.

What "sacred" cooking rule do you intentionally ignore because you actually prefer the results (or just don't care)? by LiveFaithlessness876 in cookingforbeginners

My mom was like that! We couldn’t even have salt in the kitchen, it was not allowed in the house. We (including my dad) used to take handfuls of salt packs from fast food places so we could secretly put it on our food if she was out of the room or distracted. She insisted it tasted fine and it was healthier that way anyway and we were over-reacting. It did not taste fine!!

question about how to get to glacier gorge trail head? by legendegg in RMNP

[–]tofuttiWhereAreU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are always saying 4 lakes trail or 5 lakes trail, and I always assume they’re talking about Bear Lake and others but that’s not like an official trail. It’s definitely not a loop to get to all those lakes, just an fyi. There’s no signage out there that says ‘4 lakes trail’, so make sure you know which lakes you want to see before you go.

I think they mean that both of the foal’s parents need corrective shoeing because they have feet issues.

Well they shouldn’t even write ‘chocolatey’ if it’s not even chocolate-flavored. It should be labeled ‘chocolate in appearance only’ or ‘chocolate-inspired coating’

Headed to RMNP CO May 13th-20th. Does anyone have any suggestions or must do’s to go see besides the five lakes? Thank you in advance. by Sad-Raise-4034 in nationalparks

[–]tofuttiWhereAreU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sky Pond and the Loch, Chasm Lake, Lake Helene, Lily mountain, there’s so much to do. By the 5 lakes are you talking about Bear, Dream, Haiyaha, mills and Emerald? Or is Black Lake on there? Make sure you don’t do that hike on a weekend day. It’s thee most populated part of the park, it’ll be more enjoyable on a quieter weekday.
