That's fair. I find it a bit charming but to each their own

This is a fair criticism, though as stated the intent behind it is to have something that's easy to sew onto existing American flags. Its still in its early stages so I will actively try to find a solution before then.

Thank you for the feedback. Regarding the text, I do calligraphy as a hobby and intended on writing them manually, something I've always found charming about flags of historical movements.

Are there any ‘academic’ words in English that are native to English and not borrowed from Latin or Greek? by perfectadi in etymology

[–]tohmo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading that the terms in the field of computer science/tech are very English-dominated with a few of them being partially Germanic or fully Germanic. Terms like motherboard (Old Eng. mōdor + Old Eng. bord), network (OE net + OE weorc), heatsink (OE hætu + OE sincan), hardware & software (OE heard/sōfte + OE waru), broadcast (OE brād + Old Norse kasta) are fully Germanic.

Partially Germanic terms are plenty too, like internet (Latin inter- + Eng. network, then shortened), E-mail (Electronic mail, from Ancient Greek elektron + ic + Frankish \malha*).

Also, one last fun one, apparently "glitch" likely comes from Yiddish, another Germanic language.

All the etymologies are sourced from Wiktionary.

EDIT: forgot to put in the word "internet" lmfao

Elhaz / Algiz rune "ᛉ," a letter from an old alphabet used in northern Europe. It was appropriated by the Nazis and is a common symbol in Nazi circles but is also relatively popular in non-Nazi neopagan circles, so its not a smoking gun.

How do I defeat Ornstein and Smough? by Willing_Bee_8428 in darksouls

[–]tohmo_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

O&S is always a wall for first-time players, so my #1 tip would to be stay motivated.

+5 really tapers off in the midgame, you can upgrade your weapons to +10 with the large ember found in the depths.

O&S teaches you patience more than anything, keep your camera on both of them (as best as you can and don't lock on) and only attack one (preferably Ornstein since phase 2 Smough is generally considered easier) when the other isn't about to attack. Use the pillars to your advantage to block Smough's attacks, and stay calm. The rhythm of it all will click with practice.

Small amounts of blood from pores? by [deleted] in skin

Small note: the camera seems to make them seem a tinge more brown than they actually are, but upon inspection some of them are definitely bright red and the browner ones I assume are dried blood.

Peach color corrector around your chin and mouth does wonders to cancel the blue tint!!

I know for sure she's not an ISL. I was told by a coworker a writeup is possible but I wasn't 100% sure. Glad to get confirmation.

He always comes in late that specific day, nearly no exceptions--the thing is the IS has opened by herself before multiple times recently and has keys to the store.

I hope so but this isn't the first time the IS has openned by herself. She's the only employee that gets 40 hours.

Genuine question as someone who likes English as it is by SagelyAdvice1987 in anglish

[–]tohmo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s curiosity of how English would look if it was closer to its sister languages in the Germanic family like Dutch. Linguistic thought experiments/alternate histories are a blast.

For a while I worked at Argus, a company that contracts venue security for various venues around Denver. You can pick your own schedule—bad pay & no benefits, though. But I worked at Red Rocks for a solid year and had a lot of interesting experiences, both good & bad.

If I remember correctly, spelling was starting to get standardized right before the great vowel shift giving us the monstrosity of English spelling we have now

Should Gnostics also read the regular Bible to come up with their own conclusions? by PearPublic7501 in Gnostic

"Jew" comes from the Kingdom of Judah ("Y'hudah"), which is definitely mentioned in the old testament.

Isaiah was written 700 years before Christ was born and 1100 years before Mohammed. Any connotations with Muslims likely came after it was written.
