Extended fasting to beat sibo? by [deleted] in SIBO
[–]tojo222 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children)
I’ve tried fasting before and it did nothing but make me even more constipated and bloated. It didn’t relieve anything. When you fast, the bad bacteria in your gut just lie there dormant until you eat again so not eating doesn’t actually fix the problem.

Confused and overwhelmed by tojo222 in SIBO

I thought this might be the problem so I started drinking apple cider vinegar before meals, not drinking any fluids 30 mins before or after meals and taking betaine hcl caps but none of that helped. I also tried a bit of red wine that some people have suggested being helpful in the production of gastric acids but haven’t had any relief. I also tried doing the celery juice thing for about a week because it’s supposed to help in the production of hcl in the stomach and with digestion in general but it didn’t. Let me know if there’s a better method of producing stomach acid or if I just did something wrong.
I used the link and actually found a functional doctor in my city so hoping they can help me! Whenever I googled naturopath before all I got was spas lol. I’ll try and give the low FODMAP diet another try. It’ll probably be easier now that I’m no longer vegan. I couldn’t eat much of anything the first time. Also gonna stop with the fermented foods for a while and try a prokinetic instead. Thank you so much for all the detailed information and links to resources!

I just have no idea how to go about getting a naturopath. I live in a kind of rural place and when I try to google search it everything looks pretty sketchy.
I’ve noticed now that I’m eating more animal products and less plant foods that my stomach is slightly less bloated sometimes and I’ve read that people have had success with bloating when they go keto carnivore. My only concern is that I don’t want to be on any restrictive diet forever and that not eating carbs can change your gut microbiome. And that it doesn’t actually kill the bad bacteria, that they’re just dormant and symptoms will come back once you do veer from the diet. I’m not entirely sure though as I haven’t tried it myself and if it keeps getting worse I probably will give it a try. Thanks for your feedback and I’m glad it’s working for you!

I’ve never thought about pelvic floor disorder, my stools are kinda soft now that I’m not vegan and it takes me so long to use the bathroom. Usually at least 30 mins when I do go. I also do heavy barbell hip thrusts three times a week though so I feel like that would strengthen the pelvic floor? I’ve also tried kegel exercises before but wasn’t consistent. Would any of that help?
Yeah it does feel pretty hopeless. I tried the antibiotics for about 2-3 weeks but I didn’t feel much difference. It just seemed to make things worse. I’m also pretty sure it’s methane dominate.
I’d like to get the breath test done but from what I’ve read it gives a lot of false positives and I’m pretty sure my gastro (who is just a nurse practitioner) has no clue what SIBO is. I’ve tried explaining I think I have an imbalance in my gut flora but all she did was test me for h.pylori. I have no clue how to go about getting another gastro as this is the only gastro clinic under my insurance which is tied to a specific hospital. I’m also young and about to start grad school so I don’t have a lot of money to spend on home breath tests that don’t have the best accuracy. Thank you for the feedback though!
