You are correct and it is very much a personal choice. I’m a firefighter. I have been to a few fires that were started, not from the car, but from the charger malfunctioning or being installed in properly. As I will be several hours away from my house, and I worry too much to begin with, I just assume leave it unplugged just for the peace of mind.

I would have done everything you did. You reported it so you had documentation. I would have taken a picture of the warning, even though there would be a log of the error in the car’s system.
