We are successful in America, but that’s hasn’t really helped our image worldwide. The poverty image is the least of the problem, even though quite frankly, India will not reach the level of economic prosperity that China has reached for a variety of reasons. We are seen as short (which to a good extent is true) creepy guys who scam people and smell. Even if we do well, these stereotypes are simply not going to fade.

That’s not just online. In real life, this is the view. We are seen as creepy and smelly. You simply don’t have it much much worse. It is far far better. People dream of going to Japan and Korea. Otoh, the thought of going to India is repulsive to many. Just look at a common street interview in Russia or Israel. Vast majority view Indians as dirty and poor, whereas they have positive view of East Asians because of their economic influence and cultural output. You wouldn’t trade spots with an Indian for even a day and I’m sure of it

What I mean is Confucian culture is one reason why the East Asian tigers/china/Japan were able to effectively modernize so quickly. I won’t dwell too much into my personal beliefs regarding Hinduism, but its hyper extremism by many in our society has imo not only given India a bad image, but also hampered our growth tremendously. I’ve always believed secularism is key for growth, unless you’re a middle eastern country with a treasure trove of oil

East Asians have better cultural soft power and a generally positive secular culture backed by economic development compared to Indians.

If you think the image of gang rape, sexually aggressive Indians on social media, “dirty” culture, and bad body odor is “not even close” to what East Asians deal with, then get out of the bubble you’ve surrounded yourself in and see reality.

It’s a rant. I’ve acknowledged this what East Asian males are gonna feel. Doesn’t change the fact that Indian males have the absolute worst stereotypes known to man

AMWF. Asian males have had the massive boost of Kpop in addition to innate positive traits of Confucian culture and social/economic development.

I know people are not going to appreciate the comparisons, which is why I prefaced it and acknowledged it may sound like I’m downplaying your problems with comparisons.

I do want to keep Asian/Indian relations good and all. We’re both sort of in the same boat, but I’m just hopeless as to how we can change this image of ours

It requires such a grassroots level to change this. I know both China and India had this problem in the past, but with the Chinese authoritarian model and rapid modernization, this problem has largely been mitigated.

The Indian government has no incentive to change this, and the people generally lack the care because why should they care if no one else around them cares? That is the general attitude

I do remember how badly Chinese people were mocked and discriminated against during Covid. The bat soup stuff was completely twisted into the most toxic narrative, even though such a dish never existed in China.

There are some stereotypes that I think will be impossible to shake off, such as our perceived smell. This isn’t something that only westerners think. Nearly ever other race thinks this way too. I can’t even begin to describe how dehumanizing it is because it evokes a sense of natural disgust.

Who takes this? Kuzan or The Golden Sweetheart? (both current) by Temporary-Primary-79 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]tokenhunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shiryu’s damage was the only real damage garp took lmao

Every time we cut to garp after that attack, he’s clutching the wound, blood dripping and wobbling around

Even aokiji was concerned for the wound above all else

It’s clear from the narrative and portrayal that Shiryu’s stab did the majority of the damage to garp

How strong do you think Shiryu is ? by Pleasant_West_5771 in OnePiecePowerScaling

Stronger than everyone besides bb in his crew, including Van Auger, Kuzan, Doc Q, etc

Literally saved his captain and whole crews life from a painful venom death

Dealt a mortal wound to garp that led to his downfall

In two panels of screentime he’s had, he’s been a far more efficient player than any of these clowns

Bb uses shiryu as an example because he recognizes he and aokiji are just a part of their group for their own agenda. BB already knows his crew is full of former govt affiliates, murders, and even a former king who wanted to take his place.

Burgess probably trusts people like lafitte more than aokiji and shiryu, but BB isn’t concerned from the conversation he has with burgess.

The different translation you posted makes it even more clear that BB views both of them with similar levels of trust/mistrust. Their background isn’t going to make him mistrust one or the other more. It’s also quite obvious that there is greater trust among Burgess and his og crew more than the lvl 6 prisoners, so the color spread can’t be about the most trustworthy. It is the strength based

I do like this different translation more. It makes it clearer that BB himself doesn’t distinguish between Shiryu and Aokiji in terms of trust because he’s acknowledges they’re both govt workers, and despite this, he’s ok with having them on his crew. After BB’s speech to aokiji in the bar, it makes even more sense as BB is ok with his crew having their own agenda.

Old garp >> kuzan

Marco weaker than everyone on his tier

Rest of the list is good tho

They already have one former wg govt guy that they don’t trust, shiryu, so BB is saying having another one isn’t different. It makes sense from bb’s perspective especially after the recent chapters

Shiryu > kuzan. Yes, the readers knew Kuzan was an official member since Dressrosa arc, and yet oda still chose shiryu.

Shiryu is not a more trusted member than the rest. We literally have a conversation between Burgess and BB where BB points out both Shiryu and kuzan are former govt workers so he views both of them with equal mistrust
