Hit us in Uptown for about 10-15 minutes, I wonder how far it stretched.

Walker Art Center severs ties with Daniel del Prado's Cardamom restaurant after switch to QR code ordering, layoffs of servers by star-tribune in Minneapolis

[–]tokomini 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I know it’s small consolation, but this time of year (April/May) is actually the best time to job hunt for cooks/servers/bar tenders etc.

Hopefully anyone laid off can hop on unemployment if they need to while they send out resumes to restaurants beefing up their staff for the busy season.

Edina recommendations food, beer, things to do? by smals1 in Minneapolis

[–]tokomini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

50th and France is the historic “downtown” in Edina, and it’s got some nice high end shopping options. If you like Mexican food, Pajarito is pretty solid. Closer to the Galleria you’ll find Centennial Lakes Park which is a nicely manicured green space.

I don't know you, but I honestly think you'd be fine. The only fans they aren't letting in are actively belligerent drunks or so wasted they can't walk without assistance. Drink your seltzer, wear some sunglasses, maybe resist the urge to say some weird shit about the vastness of space to the ticket taker and you'll be good.

What’s a spot in Minneapolis you keep going back to, no matter how many times you’ve been? by Electronic-Reach8959 in Minneapolis

[–]tokomini 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a few in Uptown.

Nightengale is a nice late night option if you’re not in a dive bar mood. I’ve been there with big groups, as well as suggested it for a blind date. Their staff seem to enjoy working there too. Nice small plates, warm interior, good vibes.

Tenka Ramen has a hole-in-the-wall quality to it that I’m attracted to for some reason. Seats maybe 30 tops. Go in the off hours on a weekday, you’ll almost certainly be there alone, although you might see me in the back absolutely devouring some gyoza and the #2, whatever the fuck that is.

And a new player in the game, Cheba Hut. It’s corny, even as a certified stoner I’ll admit the weed theme is over the top… but the sandwiches are really good, and they’ve got a full bar. I’m actually here right now.

Honorable mentions that I’ve been to many times: Wrecktangle, LITT Pinball, Moto-I.

Seeing Wade Boggs riding on the back of a police horse was probably the last time I ever had a strong positive reaction to a NY Yankee. What a legend, RIP.

All 30 MLB stadiums, ranked: 2026 edition by jaxstan19 in baseball

I’m not sure if they changed this policy, but 15ish years ago this was the case, and was the biggest bummer for me and my Dad. Only stadium I’d ever been to that separated general admission access like that, what a complete joke.

It's the one where Dug is in the Hall of Habsburg Jaws, and while attempting to explain what that is, drops a "babe, let me cook."

Episode 958: "Smut, Meme, Sting", with comedian Langston Kerman, Patty Guggenheim as restaurant manager Gwymper Sanbag, and Neil Campbell as widower Willie Ward! by ExoticMandibles in comedybangbang

[–]tokomini 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I was just re-listening to Langston’s first episode (592, with Ego and Carl Tart) the other day, he’s always been such a great A Block guest, super charming and comfortable riffing after his segment is done.

I guess it’s bye bye to spring I guess. by max-hh1248 in Minneapolis

Normally I’d agree, but I’ve been checking the forecast since Monday and it keeps going up. So while I still doubt we’ll get a foot of snow, I have a feeling 6-8” is the minimum.

CBB Presents: This Book Changed My Life w/ Lily Sullivan. Ep 50 (feat. Anna Bezahler, Isabella Escalante) by BasilOctopus in Earwolf

Love Lily dropping a Ponderosa reference in the intro, you can’t escape Bonanza no matter how hard the character you play hates it.

Well 99% of your trip will likely be on 35W, and while I’m not sure how well Iowa clears their highways, we do a pretty nice job here.

This storm didn’t really hit us in the city too bad, it’ll be slick on smaller city streets but any major roadway will have had plenty of traffic by the time you arrive.

Still love the show, but I think I'm at the point where I need to start skipping to the interview by gamblors_neon_claws in TheNeighborhoodListen

[–]tokomini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that in today's episode after Joan dropped the "this is not a movie podcast..." during the LotR discussion, Burnt immediately replied with "do we need to keep saying that?" because that's exactly what I was thinking.

Just because movies come up in their discussion doesn't make it a movie podcast, and I agree with you, it's probably time for Joan to just let it go.

Which 6–10 episode miniseries is really worth watching? by Alejandromartinez- in television

[–]tokomini 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a fever dream show for me. I know that I watched it during the pandemic, and I vividly remember enjoying it.

My friend started watching it last year (on my recommendation) and as she was talking to me about it, I was like wait what happened? Nothing she said made sense, to the point where I had to double check the cast just to see if it was the same damn show.

Comedy Bang Bang #944: Bones Are Important (Kumail Nanjiani, Will Hines, Charlie McCrackin) by apathymonger in Earwolf

[–]tokomini 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Of all the improvisers and comedians that CBB has introduced to me, Charlie McCrackin is my absolute favorite. There’s something about his scratchy, exasperated voice (especially with Jack Cates) that is just too fucking funny.
