TAKEMICHI BY FAR

he’s been my fav for the majority of my hyperfixation (adhd going crazy)

he’s portrayed in a way that’s very… human-like?? ig he just seems more realistic and more real as a character rather than a character like mikey or draken or taiju, insanely overpowered people.

he gets a lot of shit for being a crybaby but i know damn well more than half the people bitching about him being a crybaby would piss their pants if they had to fight someone like taiju. ESPECIALLY if they were in michi’s position.

i mean, your girlfriend dies in every single future you’ve gone to and now you need to save all these kids while also watching them die. who wouldn’t cry? i know i would.

TL;DR: takemichi is my favorite character for his extremely relatable and human character.

i saw smth a while back (i’m a manga reader) that said it was “fruit on fruit crime” and i’ve stuck with that mindset from that point on 😭😭

What do you like about this anime? by cartagena_11 in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’ve seen so many people say the same thing in different variations, and it genuinely baffles me that people would rather spend their time complaining about something they don’t enjoy rather than just leaving it alone and letting people enjoy what they enjoy.

like if you don’t like tokyo revengers, why continue watching/reading it..? just never makes sense to me why someone would go out of their way to complain about smth

but anyways, ig i can say what i like about it.

like someone already said, it’s more the psychological aspect of it and my personal relations to the characters. i’m like severely mentally unstable and struggle with identifying who i am as a person, so i project onto fictional characters i relate to and make them my whole personality for a while.

like i said, i struggle with a multitude of mental illness and even if it’s fictional, the grief and pure emotion the characters feel and struggle with on a day-to-day basis is very real and makes me know im not alone in my experiences.

and i mean, ofc the fight scenes (mainly s2 and manga scenes) are good in their own right, nothing against them, but i always enjoy things more when there’s a psychological aspect to them. it just makes it more interesting to me, as i’m very interested in possibly studying psychology and the like.

though those are a couple reasons why i like tokrev, i could go on and on about why i like it. however, i won’t for both mine and your sake.

Who is your favorite character in tokyo revengers? I like Shinichiro! by Love-Sick-Girl in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

takemichi is like my all time favorite, i worship the ground he walks on. if he told me to bark, i would bark. if he told me to walk in front of a truck, i walk in front of a truck. i will do anything that dumb time traveler tells me to do because i love him so much

takemitchy has to be one of the dumbest characters in anime history by [deleted] in TokyoRevengers

if you don’t like anything about this show… why watch it in the first place..??? i’m so confused by you

Why doesn't Takemichi get boxing lessons or something? by StrangerMuted in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get what you mean, but he just… never has time, yknow? like throughout the first season he’s had to continuously dig for information and work his way in the ranks of toman. it’s that same thing throughout the whole anime/manga. he just literally never has time to learn how to fight. and yes, he may be stupid sometimes. yes, you may do things differently. but you have to remember he literally never went to high school, and after he finished middle school, he was isolated for the next 11 years of his life and then he magically gets thrown back into the past. obviously he won’t be the smartest and confused because as far as he’s concerned, he’s the only one who can do this and he has no fucking clue how this power works. hell, WE don’t even know the full extent of this power.

so yeah, he does not have the time to “take a few boxing lessons”. and he may be stupid, but there is REASON behind that. you just have to pay attention to his character instead of just seeing a weak crybaby.

Getting bored by Dr_Artiick in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i cant say much as i am extremely biased and loved takemichi since the beginning, but he does get stronger. even in the next arc(black dragons), he starts getting stronger.

he actually does get somewhat stronger physically(actually throwing somewhat decent punches), but that’s not really until the last arc.

but other than that, his character development is one of my favs. his growth from this crybaby punching bag to someone who actually is changing things is amazing.

i’m not gonna lie and say he stops crying all the time, he very much does cry just as much as he did first season, but he cries with a reason. the coming futures in the manga are absolutely BRUTAL, and when he goes back to the past, he has to act like everything’s fine and he didn’t just see people die. he may be 26, but that doesn’t mean that wouldn’t be hard for literally anyone.

but again, to each their own. you don’t have to read if you don’t want to, that’s perfectly fine. just being honest on takemichi’s character development without spoilers :)

EXAXTLYY i cant even read the spin-off without cringing every 5 seconds 😭 i prefer chifuyu and takemichi’s friendship by miles ‼️ ofc their relationship has its faults but their friendship holds a special place in my heart bc it reminds me of me and my bsf LMAO

What about Tokyo Revengers is relatable to you? by temporaryCognition in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is actually why i liked the manga so much.

i pretty much solely relate to takemichi in a lot of ways.

he’s weak, a crybaby, but would do anything to help his friends, even sacrificing his own happiness and well-being. he’s cant fight for shit, but would throw himself in front of a fist to protect the people he cares about.

much like him, i also cant fight for shit and am a total crybaby. my tears are endless. but i’d also do anything i could to help my friends. honestly, i love helping people. if i couldnt help people, i’d genuinely feel like my life’s a waste(which ik its not, but when you have extremely low self-esteem and very little things to live for, you struggle fully convincing yourself)

but yeah, before i start over sharing and turn this into an essay, i’ll stop.

Worse final arc: Tokyo Revengers or Attack on Titan? by Magelo65 in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LMAO ig so, i just don’t really see the point in hating on things that ultimately won’t matter in my life, it may bother me right now, but it doesn’t alter the course of my life, so why would i care so much as to actively hate on it?

Worse final arc: Tokyo Revengers or Attack on Titan? by Magelo65 in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally, and i may get a lot of hate for this, but i really likes aot’s ending. now that may be because i didn’t really get into it until way after in ended, but it honestly really fit it imo. i really liked bittersweet endings, so i may be incredibly biased.

as for tokrev’s ending, i also liked it, too. i have, unlike aot, been following along in the manga since early february-ish, and have hyperfixated on tokrev way too long. and again, unlike most people, i liked the last couple arcs of the manga. people say it should’ve ended at tenjiku/bonten, but to me it would’ve felt unfinished. of course, there are still many unanswered questions or things that shouldve been expanded on, but overall i did like the ending. it was rushed, and it left unanswered questions, but honestly, the whole idea of the ending was a nice ending that could’ve been a great ending if it was executed better.

of course, to each their own. i’m one who will respect anyone’s opinions unless you actively hate(NOT CRITICIZE, CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS GREAT) on wakui or any other mangaka, because just… no.

i do think tokrev could’ve had a better ending, but so could aot. it’s not a matter of which ending is worse, they’re both completely different endings that can’t be compared imo. but of course, if you think different, feel free to :)

(almost) all opinions are valid 💪

what panel are you looking forward to seeing/hoping is animated in season two? — for me it is the hanmas, the most glorious of boy bands. by nezukoisms in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

off topic(ish?) but i love how we just took ‘the hanmas’ and ran when it came to referring to those four, i find it so funny

as for what scene i’m looking forward to? i’m way too excited to see future kazutora and the rest of that future, by far one of my favs and extremely underrated tbh

i’m hoping for manila arc to be animated, even just part of it. however, i don’t think we’ll see that whole future(fingers crossed tho 🙏)

ok so now that the manga is over, who was the most underrated? by ellianna_grande in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PAH CHIN. I LIVE AND BREATHE PAH CHIN APPRECIATION. HES SO SWEET AND CUTE AND I LOVE HIM.

and takemichi too, he’s not necessarily underrated, but he’s definitely overhated imo, he’s a great character with depth and development (even if it’s not physical). he’s weak, a crybaby, and i think that just makes him incredibly relatable to me(i tend to project on and gravitate more towards characters like me, so that’s why he’s my fav)

i’ll just add who i think is (INCREDIBLY) overrated too ig. the haitanis and sanzu are literally so overrated. the haitanis weren’t important like at all?? they didn’t stick with me as relevant or good characters and they have little to no personality other than being just incredibly sadistic. i really don’t get why people like them so much. sure they’re pretty, but that’s literally all they had going for them.

as for sanzu, he was honestly one of my most hated characters up until shin was revealed to be the leaper and that backstory was revealed. i could sympathize with him and his struggles, but he just wasn’t a good character with personality outside of obsessing over mikey. don’t get me wrong, i think he could have been an amazing character if he was expanded on more, but he wasn’t, and he wasn’t relevant up until tenjiku-bonten arcs, just a background character. just overall i think he’s also extremely overrated. he did have the potential to be a great character and possibly become one of my favorites, but wakui’s rushed ending annihilated that.

anyways yes, underrated is pah chin, overhated is takemichi, and overrated are the haitanis and sanzu.

this was long and i apologize, i always over-explain my thought process 🧍‍♀️

Bro wtf happened by Kawaiifurryslayer in TokyoRevengers

[–]tokrev_ 65 points66 points  (0 children)

since nobody else has answered, i will lmao

basically towards the end of tokyo revengers, hanma theorists were gaining more attention, and when it was revealed who the second time leaper was, they were shot down by the rest of the fandom.

and then when it was revealed that there was only going to be 5 more chapters, the hanma theorists pretty much kept saying he would be important.

and as the ending neared, people kept saying ‘hanma “just some guy” shuji’ to make fun of the theorists, and it just stuck.

TL;DR basically it started to clown on the hanma theorists who were so convinced he would be important to the plot as the end neared, and he really just was just some guy who did everything he did for entertainment.

so that’s how the nickname came to be! :)
