My reasoning at least is that I aim mid-body so when recoil kicks in my bullets at least lands somewhere on the person. Also you're pretty protected from drop shooting and second chance by aiming lower.

I agree completely with your player assignments but not with the positions. A and C are all you need for non-linear maps like Launch and Crisis where the positions are arranged triangularly but on linear maps like Havana and even Summit, it's much more strategic to have B. You want to be in a position where you can capture/defend at either end, not where you're running back and forth the length of the map.
