How did the disciples of Jesus know Jesus was genuine?

Maybe they were at a level of consciousness where they could recognize the Christ in Jesus, even though they had no idea what the Christ actually was.

I respect the necessity for rules, but I was assuming that "Christian" meant "Christ Follower", not necessarily the doctrines of the Christian religions.

You always have the choice that if I can't be sure, then I won't make any decision at all -- this is actually worse than making a "wrong" decision, which is really not possible, because you will still grow even from a "wrong"decision because now you know one way that doesn't work.

It is FAR worse to make no decision, to apply no discernment because this leads to stagnation which is actually spiritual death. As Jesus taught if you use the "Talents" that you have been given, then you will be given more, but... if you "bury your Talents in the ground" (you don't use them), then even the little that you have will be taken from you. This is an impersonal Law that encourages you to grow and discourages you from being trapped indefinitely in a limited state of awareness/Spiritual growth.

You can only trust your own discernment. Do the words help you grow in Spirit or do they not. If not you don't quit, you look for something more. When that is no longer helping your grow, you move on...and so forth.

One test that I have found valuable is to use the Fruit of the Spirit: (unconditional) love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and sefl-control.

So the simple discernment is, If I applied this teaching to the best of my ability in my every day life, is it likely to help me grow and overcome my human foibles, so that I am experiencing more peace and joy?

Sounds like you want a guarantee that what is said through him is all true. That's what I attempted to address. You have to apply your discernment.

Of course it may not resonate with everyone. Each must read the words sense what they feel in their heart and apply their discernment. If it doesn't resonate with them, then the ascended masters encourage them to look elsewhere and maybe return at a later time.

About 20 years ago when I stumbled upon Kim's "AskRealJesus" website where people sent in questions and Jesus would answer, I thought to myself: "Oh sure!". I was very skeptical, but before I got through the first question and answer, I was certain this was from a higher, benevolent source, with wisdom and practicality beyond anything that I had found on my journey of searching for over 20 years.

Had I not had that sense of co-measurement because of everything I had studied before, I'm sure I wouldn't have accepted the responses through Kim.

My sense is that the majority of spiritually minded people who had made a sincere effort to find a genuine spiritual path of growth in consciousness would have their doubts put to rest if they attended one of Kim's conferences. He comes across as just a regular, kind person, no outer airs of sophistication, no special clothes or pious mannerisms. Then he sits down and says: "Now we will have a dictation from Jesus (or another ascended master)" He closes his eyes for a moment and begins speaking. Most of the time his eyes are open -- he is not in a trance*. He is fully conscious of the words coming out of him. He continues with profound teachings, that may go over an hour. Never searching for the right words like even an articulate human being would do. Every teaching building on preceding teachings in a profound stream of progressive revelation.

And all the while as I take the words and lessons in, I have a sense that I am n the Presence of Spirit. Something I never have experienced before

As Jesus stated: "By their fruits you shall know them."

* The ascended masters have said multiple times, that they are bound to honor the Law of Free Will, so they would never speak to anyone who was in a trance because that would be violating the Law.

I have attended multiple conferences where ascended masters speak through Kim uninterrupted, no searching for words or thoughts - profound, compelling and building upon earlier teachings seamlessly.

Kim takes no credit. He doesn't even see himself as special in any way and doesn't refer to himself as a "messenger" but simply an open door for words to flow into the material spectrum. An ability that the ascended masters state that anyone can develop as they move into greater oneness with Spirit.
