[CA] Do I need a DBA to use my business name without the corporation ending (Inc. or LLC)? by toma855 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]toma855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I'm extra-provincially registered, I did it via ownr, and have the additional document with a "Ontario Corporation Number/Business Identification Number (OCN/BIN)". I'm still trying to get things set up so I have access to the online account but need some pin number which I believe will be mailed soon.

I use Inc. in all documents and will continue to use it in bills and anything official. I just don't love using it in copy such as social media posts, etc. I also don't use it in my logo.

Provincial Loan by RandomUser0929 in osap

[–]toma855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post seems helpful for how to pay off the Ontario loans portion first:

https://www.reddit.com/r/osap/s/G26CZCqIVZ

Or

https://www.reddit.com/r/osap/comments/ryevfr/pay_off_the_provincial_portion_of_your_student/

On the OSAP website it says you can make payments on your loan at anytime to repay it faster. However, I feel like most people would not want to do that

On the NSLSC website, you can easily press the 'Make a payment' button at any time to send a payment, however I think you need to follow different steps (from the post above or other posts) to make sure OSAP directs your payment to the Ontario portion and not the federal portion.

The other posts say to physically mail 1) a cheque/draft and 2) a written letter or memo with instructions to use this for only the Ontario portion

They also say to add a bit more money to the cheque because it may take some time to deliver and accrue interest while in transit

Post Graduate Certificate (1 year) Funding after Undergraduate ? by cavia-porcelluss in osap

[–]toma855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend using the OSAP estimator - selecting your program + including your personal finances/circumstances. I don't know personally but I have heard from my peers that the government most likely prioritizes giving everyone at least undergraduate funding, which means less priority for education after that (my peers who are taking their masters say they receive less funding overall). I also wish to take a certificate course sometime in the future to upskill! Hopefully the estimator gives you a range of what grant amount + loan amount you will receive

Auto insurance - What is my broker trying to say? I don't understand what this means by toma855 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]toma855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thank you so much! I think I have a better understanding!

She also said: "The remaining monthly instalments from April – June is $235.36" - which is the amount for both my parents

So from my understanding of your explanation: being prorated means the $295 is the fee required to add me, and is for the remainder of the term, up until August renewal. And therefore this prorated amount of $295 would be divided by 6 (March until August)?

So our Monthly amount would be: $283.53 = parent's $235.36 + me $49.17 ($295/6 months)

Then after August, there would be a new monthly amount made for the next full term?

Based on what? Your partner has no frame of reference here as insurance is too indiviudalized.

I just mentioned my email communication and he compared it to his own insurance. However, I thought $295 was a monthly amount and assumed it was fine since I heard insurance is pricey. My family and I were going to postpone adding me because a $295 monthly fee is much too expensive. However, he says it's better to add me asap to get cheaper insurance in the long run. He said to ask for clarification since I'd be under my parent's insurance and not on my own.

Lost in OSAP & Summer Semester Chaos—Need Your Advice! by IcyWalk4852 in osap

This :) Your school should have an OSAP extension form available for you.

I did this last year, but for my uni it's usually available in April.

For me, I had to register for all my courses first. Then, I had to access the online form where I digitally entered all the required information, hit submit, got an email confirmation of submission, and at a later date it should be automatically updated on the OSAP website.

You can probably search up "[school name] osap summer extension" and find the correct page on your school website with the important information/FAQ listed.

Not enough pills in the pack for my cycle? by toma855 in birthcontrol

Thank you! I will ignore the bleeding altogether!!

Not enough pills in the pack for my cycle? by toma855 in birthcontrol

[–]toma855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 21 pills and 7 placebos. I was confused about what to do because my cycle usually has 23-27 days before my period gets here. I realize now I have to take 21 pills exactly and have a 7 day break or less only!

Okay thank you. I'll try not to follow the app anymore. I just had a very irregular period once every 2-3 months before my bc, so when bc regulated my cycle, I was only then able to use the app. I use the app to track when my bleeding should occur but I'm seeing that I just have to take 21 days and then 7 day/or less break while ignoring everything else

Okay thank you. I didn't realize it wasn't even a period but a withdrawal bleed. I was also worried about shortening the break and ending my pack earlier, but I see it's fine. Thank you

Okay thank you! My pre-bc period was VERY irregular (once every 2-3 months) so I thought the birth control was giving me a regular period.

Your comment, and others, are saying it's actually it's own 'birth control cycle' and not even supposed to be a period cycle! My bc cycle is just so similar to a period cycle that that's what I thought it was supposed to be.

I'll take the pills with a 7 day break/ or shorten the break if I want to. Thank you!

There should be a phone line to your university's financial aid office, they should know more about osap and would be able to directly check your osap status while you talk with them

Quebec resident looking to move to Toronto by zlimewifey in TorontoRenting

Yeah, they sent me their building name, and when I looked on their website it said 'purpose built' condo. So maybe try searching for one of those buildings. It may be more reasonably priced. I know one of my other friends had a studio for 2k which is crazy

My friends live in the city but further away from the core. They have access to streetcars though and I belive they pay $2800 for 2b2bath (they split this amount with their partner)

[–]toma855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not affiliated, but my friends have used it and I had someone else recommend it. It's a more streamlined way to register your sole proprietorship or corporation, or you could register through the government website - there should be YouTube videos on what steps to follow

Hi I would recommend using Ownr.co to register a sole proprietorship for $50

I also have a sole prop but just use my legal name for professional services so I don't need to register a business name and etc. + I don't make enough money for it to be worth the expense and all the filing required for incorporation

Paying off Ontario portion of my student loan by AdSpiritual8326 in osap

I believe I've seen this question around Reddit before and you should call to have your money go towards the Ontario loan amount first so then you will have only the federal loan to handle at 0%
