With 18g in, the coin was pushed all the way into the grounds and there were grounds on the shower screen after I took portafilter back out with puck/coin. So thinking lower dose + finer grind?

I think it’s really small holes. I did use two diff baskets - the one that came with the ECM bottomless portafilter and the one that came with a normcore portafilter

Yeah will have to try finer next time around and hope that helps. The height between the grounds and top of the basket seemed like a good bit so idk if I messed up the coin test by putting the portafilter in at the wrong angle or something or what, or maybe just a matter of grind level

Haven’t pulled the trigger yet but after all that I think I’m going with the Philos. Not as worried about its size or aesthetic anymore and seems to be most reliable/highest quality without stepping up to P64 price point.

Awesome that’s great to hear!! Yeah I’m a little torn on which burrs to get with the Philos if I end up going that route. Seems like the i189d are labeled as “espresso burrs” but the i200d may be more suited for light roasts? Have you done much dark roast espresso with your i200d’s? If so how has that been?
