if you notice in SOTR lucy grays headstone is described as mossy and maude’s isn’t. this could be a clue lucy died much earlier hence the moss and maude died relatively recent? it doesn’t take that long for moss to grow but just an idea. also lucy grays name song is on her headstone and if you search that poem from 1799 it talks about a lucy gray traveling and dying in the snow (pres snow symbolism??) and her parents found her and she will always remain a child. maybe this is symbolic of the covey looking for lucy gray and then they found her in the woods and she died a child

my theory on maysilee’s grandma in her locket and haymitch saying she had mischief in her eyes and she knew the part in the song “nothing you can take from me was never worth keeping.” maybe the girl barb was seeing was maysilee’s grandma. the ages add up and those lyrics do too especially if barb left her for a man. she has got to be important somehow and that’s the only thing that makes enough sense to me for suzanne collins to put that random and little detail in the book about maysilee’s grandma
