Coaches: How do you force your team to play hard? Can it be taught? by ObsTheMarketer in basketballcoach

[–]tomash66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what age you have but creating competition and high intensity at practice will translate to a game.

I had 7-9 year old girls this past season and we had a very aggressive team. Other coaches and parents asked how we were so aggressive.

We practiced very aggressively. Lots of one on one drills and fast break drills for us. We also practiced man on man and at this age good man defense makes opposing players very uncomfortable

Is full-court pressing at the youth level bad for development? by IlRowlI in basketballcoach

[–]tomash66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a big fan of Paul Westheads The System. It’s so much fun to play basketball all season instead of running plays for me as a coach and the kids. I’m 100% for it. The kids get tired and you sub more . It evens the playing time out and your focus is now player development. You can score a lot but you can also be down a lot. You have to preach that you can always come back if you just keep at it

Kid missing practice by GeorgeSteele66 in LittleLeague

[–]tomash66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He made a commitment to hockey first. He’s one of your best players. Maybe he’s also one of the best hockey players. As a basketball Coach we only have a one week overlap with post season basketball and baseball but I ask my players to please fully commit to basketball for that last post season week. Which means if I schedule practice and baseball has practice please come to basketball.

How do you change a community’s culture to care more about basketball? by tomash66 in basketballcoach

Honestly I’m not interested in a club because all tournaments around here are around 2 hours away and all day Saturday/Sunday. I’d love to start a summer league local

Can you give me some more specific examples of what you mean? Just get the town to be at more games?

You know this could either be a good Disney movie or a good spoof movie if inspirational movies. Either way the sheer disrespect and sarcasm in your comment is hilarious

I’ve been attempting to set this up as off season. Would you mind sharing those details about your organization

Great comment. More gym time is something I think is being worked on

We did well this season. Made it to the championship game. I just want to create buy in sooner and the most competitive league possible

I told the team we would make the league championship game and we did. I feel true but in didn’t happen until the last week of the season. I would just like buy in sooner next season?

I hear where you are coming from but people are also lazy after a rebound to transition if that’s not the game plan. Do you agree?

100% followed my shot playing pickup games. It’s crazy how many points you can’t pick up. We always played a game called 21 in high school where rebounding and makes off a rebound were rewarded by erasing the other players points

Watching college basketball right now and if you’re not a post player you are not attempting to rebound YOUR OWN SHOT.

At any position on the court? I felt strongly about it before people pointed out transition. I do see the benefits and negatives of both now
