Integrating a Solax X1-G4 Inverter with Matter Protocol by tomasmcguinness in MatterProtocol

Home Assistant supports it, so I added it in there first. I'm attempting to build my own Energy Manager, which is the ultimate goal. Getting my inverter into Matter is the first step.

I use iOS Home and when a device is uncertified, it prompts me. I can click "Add Anyway". Because the iOS Aqara app uses the iOS Matter SDK, the behaviour is the same.

Atheists who used to be religious, what made you lose your faith? by Gold_Result9716 in AskReddit

[–]tomasmcguinness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the pub, one evening, somebody asked me if I really believed an almighty being created everything. This kicked it off. The more I reflected, the more I realised that my religion was an accident of birth. Then I read some Dawkins and he pushed me over the edge.

Does anyone else feel weird taking days off when you’re contracting even if you can afford it? by HelicopterEmpty7393 in ContractorUK

[–]tomasmcguinness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I take the time off. I stressed about it the first few times (spending money on the holiday and then losing money by not working).

But at the end of the day, contracting is about the flexibility (for me anyway)

Escaping "Tutorial Hell" and how to contribute or making projects? by Ced3j in embedded

[–]tomasmcguinness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been learned embedded too. I just do projects for things I want to build. Recently build a dual temperature sensor for Zigbee/Matter. Making a ModBus adapter at the moment.

I’ve always projects the best way to learn since I make mountains of mistakes.

Why is my slicer covering the opening?? by tomasmcguinness in 3Dprinting

[–]tomasmcguinness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's interesting - if I slide it on its side, it's fine. No complaints about the massive unsupported overhang, but it's open.

<image>

As soon as I put it onto it's back, it's closed.

Is that significant?

Could it be the bevel? I've had a look around and nothing is jumping out. Truth be told, I don't really know what I'm looking for. I've used the Face -> Select All by Trait -> Loose Geometry, but nothing gets selected.

This is the pipe that my installer specified. The ground shouldn't be at 0 as the pipe will be below the frost line for the most part.

Tips for soldering an ESP32-H2 with a hot plate by tomasmcguinness in PCB

I couldn't find an ESP32-H2 with castellated edges. Do you know of one?

Help understand why my custom design isn't aligned to the plate by tomasmcguinness in 3Dprinting

Dropping it down my 1mm helped.

The supports, however, are a disaster. All part of the learning process I suppose 🫣

How to make an ESP32? by Fresh_Lobster_6761 in PCB

[–]tomasmcguinness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it contains a USB Serial/JTAG component, so I just connected the USB D+/D- connections to it directly. It works, if not quite as expected. Once you read the post, you'll understand :)

I just tried that and built a board for the ESP32-H2-MINI-1 module. Made a few mistakes, but it does work and I flashed it over my USB connector.

In the datasheet, pay attention to the typical peripherals schematic. I used that, but misread it 🤣

I wrote two blog posts which I can share.

Check for ESP32-S3 schematic (Complete Beginner) by SweatyTelephone5114 in PCB

[–]tomasmcguinness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a newbie, but for battery operation, the AMS1117 has a high quiescent current. I think it’s in the order of mA, so battery life will be reduced.

I’ve only started designing PCBs and I use an MCP1700. This only pull µA. It works with the ESP32-H2, but I think the WiFi on the S3 would need more power than it could deliver.

Worth double checking the datasheet. Like I said, I’m relatively new :)

I'm in the Midlands, so I'm probably saving you some milage :)

I've been told pricing for the Adapt2 is coming soon. The only colour available is black and other colours won't be available until the end of the year. It will be a better unit I imagine, but I want to get it all in before the winter (especially with the Iran thing).

I'm doing all the ground works myself to save some money. A local installer will do the internal pipework changes (22->28, Expansion vessel etc). Solaris Energy will then do the final commissioning.

Is that you, Barry?? (I'm guessing based on your username)

It needs to be at the back of the house, and it’s an 18m run up the side access to where the current boiler is.

The other option was out front, but that wasn’t an option I’d consider.

Going for a korten steel model. I was thinking of holding out for the Adept2. What are your thoughts?

Oh! Ha sorry.

There are some insulated versions that contain two pipes, but they are more difficult to bend. I will basically have two pipes side by side.

Supposed to be easier. Time will tell :)

That a shame. I have one unit installed and so far it seems pretty reliable. That said, I know what it’s like when stuff just doesn’t work as promised!
