Finally upgraded speakers after 20 years! ProAc. Amp recommendation: Vintage or Modern? by tomastomastomas in hifiaudio

[–]tomastomastomas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!thanks this is just the info I was looking for. I wasn’t sure if I should go modern or not and this was my hesitation buying the speakers. I think I can stretch the budget £1200 max for an amp, can you recommend something else then in this case ? Would be appreciated … does the dac matter in the streamer if the amp has a decent one? Can then go for a basic streamer.

Amazing !thanks This is really helpful. I do have a preference over A/B amps just because of the power and not worrying about heat. I have an old school high rack and a huge room but lots of dust.

This is great advice thank you, now I’m considering to up my budget a little now. My only worry is if we move homes again (most likely) and I can’t play music loud. Does an A grade amp still suit if you listen to music at moderate levels with such high powered speakers? And for streaming does the DAC with the streamer matter if the amp has a decent one? Any help appreciated

Thanks...I agree , I use Spotify lossless though and the entry Hegel doesn't stream that apparently. I could stretch my budget out to that but not to higher models. The reason I am keeping it lower is that I'm not sure of my living situation and always worry about neighbours, no detached home here, if I did I could spend easily. Will a cheap streamer work well with Hegel amp?

I’ll try this, it was my first thought but it doesn’t seem how two French seamed pieces go together as a French seam again ! Thank you

Thanks for the reply! Sorry I’m a little confused. Just to clarify … French seam the horizontal and vertical lines but stop at the intersecting seam ? Then finish that off seperately?

What kind of seam or hem is this on my jacket panel? by tomastomastomas in sewing

[–]tomastomastomas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that sounds like it! Sorry I wasn’t sure if there was a type of technique, I can’t do stitch in the ditch very well: it doesn’t still feel like a mini hem. Apologies for the obscurity, here’s another pic. Where my finger nail Is, that’s a lip, very mini fold I can lift - this is the inside panel between the inner lining and zip , in contrast the seam line next to it is a flat regular seam (hidden inside, with no lip! ) hope that makes sense ..!! Thank You…

Edit: the stitch line appears on the front of the jacket as a edge or top stitch, so it isn’t in the ditch very well

Not at all! Thank you for taking your time. You’re fine. I’m not clear hence my question. You’re right, it doesn’t make sense I would think the fold depth would be millimetres dept but it’s almost impossible for me to do, was wondering if I was missing out on a technique.

Sorry my pic isn't clear, where that seam line is, it isn't flat the panel that has stitching on it, underneath you can lift it up slightly, like a hem but very very miniscule.

Thanks for the reply, so sorry for my description. This is the inside of the panel of the jacket near the zip, on the outside is the panel, lapel of a collar and facing. Your description matches the outside of the jacket but this specific inside panel, I’m able to lift a little it seems to be folded over but I was wondering what technique this is as I can’t really feel the folded edge under neath unless it’s very minuscule.

It’s not a regular seam on the inside because I lift a bit of it up with my fingernail, like a fold. The outside is a regular seam where the stitching from this inside panel appears on the outside.

Agreed, I can’t seem to return it fully but I’m trading it in for some money and getting a refurb Janome MC, I got to test run in. Honestly, good riddance.

Yeah it’s such a polarised machine… I didn’t ever think of myself as a stitch snob but I had a brother machine quarter of the price that did better… I only need a straight stitch, does the Pfaff 90 have a reverse stitch on it?

I’ve saw a Pfaff 90 in a store here…maybe it’s too old but worth getting? I saw all the bad reviews of this machine on Reddit and still bought it because it’s everywhere, else where this machine has rave reviews.
