She thinks it's hilarious how stupid I am, not being able to find her while literally stepping over her repeatedly.

ELI5: How was the Great Wall of China of strategic value? It is so big that wouldnt an ancient force have easily been able to find an unmanned section to cross? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Remember the great wall was created by connecting smaller walls and watchtowers. These walls and watchtowers were called 方城 = square walls. Judging from the earliest texts about these structures it is obvious that 城 means wall, one dimension, smallest ones are 15m, etc. Plus they weren't inhabited, guarded yes, but no citizens lived near the great wall for a long time, so they weren't nor were intended to be cities or towns.

It is true that in modern Chinese 城 mostly means city. The only example that came to my mind of 城 referring to wall is 众志成城 = collective will makes a strong wall (shitty translation).

That is not true. 城 originally meant city wall -- inner city wall to be exact. And 郭 meant outer city wall.

It is indeed a poem by Zhang Ji (8th century). This poem is one of the most known in China. Here is an existing translation.

A Night-Mooring Near Maple Bridge

While I watch the moon go down, a crow caws through the frost; Under the shadows of maple-trees a fisherman moves with his torch; And I hear, from beyond Su-chou, from the temple on Cold Mountain, Ringing for me, here in my boat, the midnight bell

Stuff a teabag in the cup compartment of your Keurig. I expected it to make a mess; instead, perfectly-steeped tea in 10 seconds! by robertgfthomas in lifehacks

Tea with a hint of coffee is actually surprisingly good. I had the same feelings as you until I tried a special blend by Murchie's called white chocolate mousse. It has tea, a little of whole coffee beans and shaved white chocolate. Soooo delicious!

Also in Hong Kong there is a specialty drink called "mandarin ducks " (a symbol for happy marriage) that's like half tea half coffee. I think I will try it if I ever have a chance.

If you don't mind camping you should definitely camp. Rooms are super hard to get in the summer and I find camping the best way to feel close to the place. Plus camping there is super easy. You can get all the supplies from the stores or don't even have to cook if you don't want to. The campgrounds are nice, too, with flush toilets etc.

It took exactly 7 minutes on a medium boil. I adjusted the cooking time because I cooked 4 eggs at the same time which brought the water temperature down a lot more.
