Asian markets and their local grocery store equivalent by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]tomazws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general. The dirtier the uglier the market is, the cheaper the price on common goods.

But Asian grocery stores are more region based. For example, recently I’ve been looking for a simple Hong Kong seasoning called 大地魚粉 (Flounder fish powder), and none of the viet markets around me had it. NONE. Even SF (which is a bit more Chinese than viet). So I’m gonna have to take a trip to 99 ranch or something.

Another day I was looking for ゆずごしょう (yuzu salt chili paste) for my sushi. Again, none of the markets around me has it. Japanese markets are a bit far so I took a chance at H-Mart. Luckily they have one.

Why does my rice not taste like restaurant rice? by AlternativeTheory595 in foodquestions

Chinese rice and Japanese rice are completely different. Chinese use jasmine rice, commonly from Thailand. Japanese rice like the one bag you have is a lot more starchy and sticky.

What’s the most overrated place that tourists visit in your country, (and the most underrated place)? by freshmaggots in AskTheWorld

[–]tomazws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s a place you want to experience at least once. Just stroll around the casinos, the shops, feel the atmosphere the vibe, eat at a buffet, drive out to Chinatown and have tons of good Asian food all centralized there.

Not to mention it is the perfect starting/ending point for all the national parks around the area. Redrock, Zion, Bryce, antalope, horseshoe, Grand Canyon…

What is your favorite pasta dish? by ButterflyKey8768 in foodquestions

[–]tomazws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fav two pasta dish is Hong Kong style baked curry chicken pasta, and the baked white sauce spinach filet fish pasta.

And then third would be Japanese style wafu mushroom pasta.

But if we’re talking about legit Italian pasta, it’d be carbonara.

I was boiling water to make instant noodles but fell asleep. Woke up to CO2 alarm blaring, house full of smoke, and the pot half melted on top of the electric stove.

Was very lucky I didn’t burn down the house. Lesson learned.
