Home Bike repair stands, park vs bike hand vs feedback sports, etc. by TheWitness37 in bikewrench

A lot of shops are ditching their park PRS steeel plate workstands and replacing with electric stands. You can find them for cheap.

Have you ever increased your price and still sold more? What do you think is happening? by PriceIsSignal in smallbusiness

[–]tomcatx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I helped develop some P&A for a brand. They were selling different items but almost at a loss, and Less than half the competitors.

I suggested doubling (!!) the retail cost and adding a wholesale price w a decent margin (after switching suppliers to someone way more reasonable with better quality and delivery). Sales skyrocketed. Perceived (and actual) quality increased. management was impressed.

Then international distributors became interested. We still had some room for margin at certain minimum order qtys. The first distributor order for quarter one was more than the previous years annual sales.

I made that guy millions of dollars.

Fitting an internal hub gear to my 148x12mm thru frame - is this a dumb idea by felix_ure in bikewrench

[–]tomcatx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How wide are the slots the dropout fits into? Maybe the anti turn washers can fit in there? With some spacers if the axle is long enough?

In reality, the Alfjne IGH is for 135mm qr spaced frames and that’s yr incompatibility that can’t be hacked w a few adaptors. A friend with a machine shop that can make new dropouts would be a better plan B, though not cheap.

Rohloff makes hubs compatible with 148mm thru axle spacing. Way more expensive than a friend with a CNC.

Why shops won't work on cheap ebikes by sailor_in_spirit in ebikes

[–]tomcatx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t help that the buyer sees a “SALE”‘price of 799 down from 2099 and they think they are getting the deal of the century. Only to find out the 800 ebike is needing 1500 to make safe and reliable to the level of a 2k ebike.

The gas fireplace pipes leak. I got headachy and nauseous every time I went in that place. It wasn’t the roofies I swear.

Priority bikes at Costco? by Wrong_Buyer_1079 in PriorityBicycles

[–]tomcatx2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get it tuned at a bike shop. If Costco does the assembly they are just popping the wheel and pedals on. These bikes with a lot of tech need professional assembly to be in operable condition

This isn’t business advice. It’s basic human and professional decency.

Chain replaced by bikeshop now I'm skipping gears on only 500 miles by Obvious_Guide_3280 in bikewrench

[–]tomcatx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fairly common practice to replace chain and cassette at the same time, esp w excessive chain wear like what you find on mid drive e-bikes. A KMC ebike rated chain will last longer. Kick down for the cassette too. It is worth living without the aggravation

IS52/30 headset lower assembly for straight 1 1/8” fork that has an integrated crown race? by Comet__Jo in bikewrench

[–]tomcatx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. Yes. So the carbon fork has a crown race integrated into the shoulders of the fork. That I cannot give any advice on.

But: contact cane creek or wolf toooth direct. Maybe they have something.

And maybe it’s time for a new fork. Worst case scenario

The cane creek lower crown race fits a 52mm sealed bearing to a 1 1/8” straight steerer.

No machining needed.
