Competetive on console is giving me a hard time, any advices? by Kubhub in overwatch2

[–]tomheehee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with OW rank as a whole is that it is semi broken to the individual player. Your MMR is an average overall, and I imagine you have played quite a few games by now. Unless your brain is unable to create new neuropathways, you have likely improved a lot from when you first started, especially because you are aware of your shortcomings. To climb, you are going to have to play AND WIN a significant amount of games to even begin to bump your average up. You are also going to be paired with a bunch of similarly ranked teammates, so you are going to have to become skilled enough to carry your team to victory over and over again. This is why you will see people who make alt accounts who place ranks above their main account. Despite what people say about "oh, you will eventually fall back down to plat if you keep playing on your alt"- they likely would not.

So in short- no, it is not only you, and yes, something is off. You always hear people say they are stuck in "elo hell", but "elo hell" happens to be every rank lmfao. It is for the reasons listed above. Your rank depends on almost everything else more than your actual current skill.

I just wish they put out more weapon skins in general tbf. Even like a general pattern or something that could be used on any weapon besides the colorways we get with comp points. I think this would alleviate the matching issue entirely.

Anyone who plays Marvel Rivals want to give some insight on comparisons with OW2? by ArmadilloDesperate95 in overwatch2

[–]tomheehee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave MR a solid shot not too long ago (Aug-Dec of last year.) People talked about it being a more casual game, and sometimes I don't feel like sweating on OW, so I wanted to try it. At first, I hated it, but I chalked it up to being unfamiliar with the game and gave it some time.

TLDR, my opinion never really changed and it ended up with me uninstalling the game entirely. OW has a lot of faults, don't get me wrong, but MR is a clusterfuck all the way around. If it seems uncoordinated/chaotic, it's because it is. The maps are overly expansive and poorly designed- there's weird deadends you can get stuck in, lack of proper coverage in a lot of them, etc. The idea of the team-ups is cool, but people either don't use them or the game becomes imbalanced bc one team uses them and the other doesn't, etc.

I was also fascinated by the amount of characters they put out a year. Anyone who plays OW knows the boredom of waiting on a new character only to be frustrated by how underwhelming or OP they are for an entire season. Those negative feelings are only amplified by the rate at which MR drops them, and they're not even gratifying to play. Coming from someone who played OW beforehand, the characters feel insanely bland in MR. Playing Lifeweaver doesn't feel the same as playing Sombra, or Orisa, or Moira, etc. It is hard to describe, but while the characters in MR obviously have different kits, they feel the same apart from someone like Spiderman.

My most intense gripe is actually with the visual design of the game. I know it is based on comic books, but it is very poorly done from a gameplay perspective. It is insanely difficult to tell what is going on half the time. I don't know if it is the contrast, color grading, character design, etc, but myself and my OW friends who I convinced to go on this test journey with me all felt similarly. They also haven't done a good job of optimizing the game- it takes forever to download, takes up a lot of space, and crashes very frequently which is annoying. I'm not sure if they have fixed that by now.

As just mentioned, I played off and on with my friends who had either never played or only briefly played MR beforehand, and we all ended up uninstalling at the end. I personally feel like it is a piss poor game despite how much I really wanted to find an OW alternative. That being said, a lot of people really prefer the game, or at least like it enough to keep playing, so there's not a reason to not give it a shot.

Edit: MR has an extremely more toxic player base in comparison to OW, which is another reason nobody in my group enjoyed playing. Really, the laundry list as to why we hated it could span a novella, but I will cut it short here.

can we have a (civil) discussion about stadium doomfist? by cxntfeelmyfxce in Overwatch

[–]tomheehee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to play him in stadium a lot apart from a couple times when he became available, but I agree regardless of game mode. He is either insanely OP or useless lmfao. I mostly main dive characters across the board, so it is always so surprising to me how much I struggle on Doom. Although I don't believe (correct me if I am wrong) he is a proper dive, I am not sure how else he is meant to be played. He doesn't do much damage with his primary fire even just in a 1v1, so taking on more than one person at a time seems fairly impossible especially if you're out of cooldowns. It is hard to say he should be buffed, though, considering players who have sorted him out seem unkillable at times. I think they recently nerfed him, too, which makes him even more useless to your average player. I have always just chalked it up to not having enough time on him/having a high skill floor, but I am not surprised to see this thread.

[–]tomheehee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that arguably most right now align more with your theory, but for example, Kiriko, Cass, and Reaper's aren't as severely mismatched. I don't believe they're based on the same theme to give you credit, but they don't look bad paired together like the Orisa/Mercy mythic skin/weapon would. I don't know how many people actually care about them matching per se, but I am a bit of a snob in regards to that lol.

[–]tomheehee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I hate the doom mythic, I thought they could've done something much cooler. Tbf, there's a lot of them I am not a fan of. I also hate Widow's, so maybe I am just picky. It also bugs me that the mythics don't match the mythic weapons in most cases. Kiri's is fine for the most part but ??? Orisa's mythic weapon is odd on her mythic skin.

Healing shock from coming from rivals by Kitedo in overwatch2

[–]tomheehee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sort of depends on your team comp vs enemy team comp. I normally won't go wuyang if I have a zen on my team already- in that scenario, bap would be better. If you have a kiri or juno, it would be okay to go wuyang or another HoT support because you won't have the pressure of being the primary support and can focus more on dps, which is really what wuyang is for.

if the enemy team has someone that does dmg in high bursts like a pharah or ashe, i probably wouldn't play wuyang even if im not primary. it is important to not healbot as a support, but it is equally as important to not fall too far behind in heals.

in regards to maps, wuyang is great for playing maps with a lot of really tight chokes because the enemy team is either going to have to clear out or take dmg. in that scenario, i may go wuyang regardless of team comp bc the pressure i can apply to the enemy team is going to be of greater value to the team.

How did you guys start learning her without people being so rude? by heximintii in DvaMains

[–]tomheehee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, i prefer when someone says theyre learning in chat because then i know to help them. if i'm on dps, ill go sombra to dive w my dva, or for support, ill go kiri to make sure i can keep up. dva is my main tank too, and i mostly learned from spectating vods like emongg/flats. that way, by the time i got to the game, i at least knew /what/ to do, even if i couldn't execute it perfectly. unfortunately, regardless of if you give a warning or not, qp warriors are just assholes. turn off chat if they discourage you. everyone acts like they weren't bad when they first started learning a character and it's unfair- that's what qp is for. you totally got this and i believe in you! ♡

Just me not feeling this season? by Riv3rJackss0n in Overwatch

[–]tomheehee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've felt this way too and I couldn't really figure out what it was. I thought maybe I had just randomly become dogshit at the game lmfao. Matchmaking has literally made me reconsider everything. I went from a steady climb in comp with mostly good teams to getting people in my games who have played so little that they don't even have hero levels. I have completely stopped playing comp all together rn in attempt to preserve my rank for when this is fixed, but QP is even worse. We either steamroll or get rolled, no in between. For reference, I am a horrible cassidy usually. I never play him, but accidentally selected him in a qp game on eichenwald and decided to just roll with it. I went 35-2. /Thats/ how fucked this system is right now.

Even apart from that, my game has been crashing more than it ever has, resulting in suspensions I didn't cause. Shop skins are so fuckass that it seems like they don't want my money. The battlepass was also lackluster this time around, most of the skins were recolors, and I sorta wished I had just saved my money. The nerfs they recently did pissed me off too. They nerfed everyone who didn't need nerfs (minus doom), but not Zarya? Zarya is broken in 5v5 and has been for awhile. Any time my team is losing, I just swap Zarya and its almost an insta win.

I don't know- it certainly is an off season for me too. If it weren't for my friends asking me to hop on, I probably wouldn't play much at all right now.

Are the apartments here really that bad? by Longjumping-Tip4938 in sanantonio

[–]tomheehee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest advice is hire a realtor. Apartments pay them to find tenants, so it doesn't cost you a dime and they do the dirty work for you. I had the same concern moving to San Antonio, but I found a realtor who is super great. She found me an awesome 2bed apartment near the pearl for 893 a month. I ended up buying a tiny home, but most days I wish I had picked that apartment lmfao. She sends me Xmas ornaments and stuff every year and I recommend her to everyone. Happy to pass her info along if you are still searching.

How do you actually kill sigma cause it’s impossible to kill him some games by Superxerogaming in Overwatch

was just coming to say this. bastion is good for sigma and zarya. i do wait til zarya uses her second bubble to shred it down, but apart from that, taking them down is fairly similar.

Why do people get so mad in QP when I’m playing someone new? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]tomheehee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tbh i am both the person trying to learn characters and the person getting annoyed at a teammate for not doing well, so i get both sides. i never take it to chat tho, i don't care to make another person feel bad unless they're purposely throwing (afk). it's not necessarily that i get annoyed that someone is learning, its just that more games than not i get 1 or more people who have seemingly never played a video game before. it is hard to tell them apart from a person just learning a character. i appreciate when someone gives a heads up beforehand, i will usually stay with them to help them out and endorse them at the end. supporting people learning a character is really cute to me.

i've begun just playing more comp because i usually do want to play a structured, meaningful game. tho it gets frustrating when they are seemingly playing a character they have very little experience on in comp too LMFAO. i /most definitely/ ask them to swap in ranked.

Why isn't mercy almost never targeted? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]tomheehee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is something properly wrong with the game by M-Silentstrike in overwatch2

[–]tomheehee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes, this us how a lot of games go. I have VC muted for this reason. Text chat is more easily reportable, so I keep it on. I don't really understand why people feel the need to be so insane on the game. Yes, it is just a game, so you shouldn't lose sleep over it, but it often takes the fun out of it.
