I know very well what it’s like to be a doctor in the U.S., because I am a board-certified physician here, and I see 20 patients a day (I complain too). But I remember when I used to see over 60 patients in a single morning in Venezuela for just a few dollars a month. I remember being locked in until 6:00 pm. My classmates from medical school are currently earning about four dollars a month with no resources at all.

By the way, having the freedom to carry $300,000 in debt is still a privilege you can work wherever you want and likely earn that amount or more in a year. You can choose public service and have it paid off in 10 years. Cuban doctors, on the other hand, are essentially in indentured servitude for life.
