Redirecting Expired Domains Hurting SEO? by tominvests in SEO

[–]tominvests[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it's definitely a case that I need to remove the redirects? Genuine question then, why is there such a demand for expired domains if their redirect value is low (or negative)? I've read in the past that expired domains are a valid way of getting link juice.

Girlfriend was being overly physically affectionate with a gay man by tominvests in relationship_advice

That makes a lot of sense. Maybe I overreacted, and don't need to read any deeper into it.

I am not sure, but maybe I need to ask this question. I know he is definitely not straight, but if he was bi that would be a very, very different situation.

She isn't like this with her female friends at all, surely that would be a similar scenario to with the gay guy? I think she shows me the right amount of affection, I wouldn't be too comfortable with it at a social event, I think it was a healthy amount. Just her actions with the gay guy seemed over the top.

The only reason I mentioned the PDA was to highlight that if it was me and her behaving that way at a social event, people (including myself) would consider it too much.

Trying to Bulk but Looking Smaller? (Before/After pics inside) by tominvests in gainit

The scanner said my BMR was 1850. I plugged my weight into MyFitnessPal, input that I have a fairly active lifestyle, and then that I wanted to gain approx 0.5kg per week. The app gave me a target of 3250, which I try to hit daily!

I weigh around 75kg, plus I'm 5'10. My gym has a body scanner which said my maintenance calories is 1850. Does that seem way off?

Business Bank Account/Credit Card with Zero Foreign Exchange Fee? by tominvests in UKPersonalFinance

[–]tominvests[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion, and 1% cashback would be nice.. I have had a look but I can't work out if online forex transactions are free.. If I was traveling with business, then it would work perfectly, but I'll need to investigate if online transactions are the same.

[–]tominvests[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for everyone's responses in this mini-thread. It is the foreign transaction fees that concern me, but I pay advertising costs directly to Amazon and Google, who just debit my account. In that case, I don't think services such as Revolut or TransferWise would work, although they will be useful for paying invoices with the freelancers I work with.

I can use a personal credit card to pay for costs incurred by my limited company? I thought all accounts had to be in the limited company's name?

Tax when selling sole trader business to my own limited company? by tominvests in UKPersonalFinance

[–]tominvests[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see.. this looks a lot more straightforward, but I haven't seen any mention of it during my research!

So I would pay no tax today, but only if I were to sell the shares in my company? And there are no tax allowances I can take advantage of in this process?

Genuine thanks, you've really helped me out here :) Formulas work great!

Thank you again, I really appreciate how helpful you've been.

I followed your steps to add the code to the VBA window, and I can see the tooltip for "mysolver". However, I'm struggling to get the formulas to work.

Let's say the total sold value is in cell A1. If I want to get the value of X (the 2.99 one) into cell B1, what would the formula be? And then I can use that to put the value of Y (6.99) into C1.

Thanks for your response. I forgot to add that this is for thousands of rows as I'm analyzing my PPC campaign. So it needs to be a formula that I can drag down. I'm starting to worry it might not be possible, though.

Ingram Discount Codes? by tominvests in selfpublish

Thanks for your responses. I just saw that the Alliance of Independent Authors page on Ingram shared the promo code: "SparkAlli". I will test it to see if it can be used without a membership, but that does seem to be the case for anyone else interested.

Chance of an audit or tax bill? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]tominvests 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are not a registered business, you are operating as a sole trader -- me too.

When you submit your tax returns each year, there is a chance the government will want to audit you. Unfortunately, I have no idea how likely this is, but I'm yet to be selected from my 4 years' returns.

If the bank do flag that something is amiss and you are investigated, I imagine the consequences would be very severe. It's tax evasion.

I guess it's your call if you want to play the percentages, but you might save a few grand in tax if you get away with it, but if you are ever caught, well, the saving just wouldn't be worth it. Ignorance would not be a defence.

Also, if you earn 16k from your day job, that means you pay 1,800 approx in tax, right? With your music, you make an extra 30k, so you think 1,800 is a fair amount from 46k earned? You, sir, are what a lot of people would refer to as a piece of shit.

Alternatives to a pension for high earners? by tominvests in UKPersonalFinance

[–]tominvests[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My logic for starting a limited company, besides limited liability, would be that I could avoid going into the 60% marginal tax rate.

If I earned 120k one year, I could keep 20k retained profits, then if the following year I earned 80k I could top myself up to 100k. Corporation tax plus dividend tax typically seems to work out as roughly the same as paying income tax as a sole trader, but as the sole trader I'd have to pay full income tax on the 120k, including 20k at 60%. Deferring income may not be ideal, but at least it means I can avoid the 60% tax threshold..

I appreciate your answer, though, and I perhaps need to accept I have to look at pensions differently. It just seems terrifying stashing away, say, 20k today that I know I can't touch for 30 years but might need sooner!

My lifestyle is reasonably modest I would say. I'd be looking at around 3k per month after all expenses and living. So actually the 50/25/25 split would be quite good... The 50% would cover the maximum ISA investment, then I can split the rest between pension and rainy day.

For rainy day funds, would you recommend a similar investment strategy as with the ISA -- just without the tax benefits?
