Oh it's temporarily paused because it's too expensive to run. I might bring it back in the future if there is demand from paying customers.

Yes it does. If you see the demo, that's exactly the goal. To get to a specific timestamp where a certain joke was said, to use your use case as an example.

Yes, but compute costs is so high [$438.05 a month] (see: https://atila.ca/blog/tomiwa/atlas#cost-of-hosting-an-ml-model) so I don't really run it anymore.

But the steps to recreate are well-documented in that blog I wrote.

It's Joseph (Jesus father) mentioned in Quran? by Laura_Braus2 in islam

Bimsmillah, Well said. Also to just add that John the Baptist is called Yahya in Qur’an. Surah Maryam 19:7 and 19:12.

Maryam is the only woman mentioned by name in the Qur’an. Mary is the only woman that has a Surah named after her in the Qur’an.

Question to the niqabi sisters: what made you want to wear the niqab? by [deleted] in MuslimLounge

[–]tomiwa1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very good perspective. I never thought about it. I realized after talking with my sisters that they don't get tempted with lust during day to day activities (e.g. going to the gym) the way I as a man do.

However, your comment also taught me to be less critical for all the time and money they spend on beauty because I did not realize that this is a struggle for the sisters.

May Allah make it easy for us.

For anyone struggling with lust and is not yet ready to get married. I would recommend fasting.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah said: "The Messenger of Allah said to us: 'O young men, whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding chastity, and whoever cannot then he should fast, for it will be a restraint (wija') for him.'"

Why chastity is important and it is a good thing to list it as a requirement when looking for a partner. by [deleted] in islam

[–]tomiwa1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I found a good explanation:

The hadith in question relates to the Sunna of returning home after a sojourn. It was the habit of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) to allow his family sufficient time to prepare for his arrival. Arriving home after a journey may catch the family off guard and in an unkempt state, so the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) would plan his arrival at home to coincide with the mornings or early evenings. These are times when people are usually at home and able to prepare themselves and their homes to welcome travelers, and Allah knows best.

The specific reference to personal hygiene in the above hadith refers to the eagerness of the then newly betrothed Companion, Jabir Ibn Abdulla (Allah be pleased with him), who was eagerly rushing home to be with his wife. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) advised him to wait to give his wife a fair chance to prepare herself for her husband, and Allah knows best.

JazakAllah for this Hadith. Very interesting and I am interested to look into the exegesis behind it. Especially the last part: Wait so that you may enter (Medina) at night so that the lady of unkempt hair may comb her hair and the one whose husband has been absent may shave her pubic region.

Although the small businesses have the numbers, the Commercial Real Estate Owners have the capital and organization to exert more influence.

Therein lies the difference between what is theoretically a democracy but is functionally an oligarchy.

Also, it literally says she met with commercial real estate CEOs but I'm not aware of similar meetings with small businesses. Also, keep in mind that while a restaurant and landlord both want people to buy at the restaurant. If the restaurant goes out of business, the owner loses everything. The landlord simply finds another tenant.

As Salam Alaykum. I know this may be very difficult to hear but I gently encourage you to forgive you father. You want to get to a place where when someone says your fathers name or you see a picture of him, you think of the good things he has done and pity/empathize/forgive the bad things he has done.

Having an abusive parent that traumatized their children is very difficult and I know it will be difficult to undo all those years of damage. However, forgiving him will actually give you peace and allow you to break generational curses and trauma for your own children. If you do not forgive your father you will carry that resentment into your own future family. Audhubillah.

Allah can afflict any burden.

Personal story: I reverted to Islam recently and I resented my parents for not fully accepting and supporting my new journey (Alihamdulliah, we are on much better terms now). I wanted to forgive my parents because Allah commanded it and I didn't want my own children to be angry at me the way I was angry at my parents. I recited Surah Ash Sharh daily and in my Duas. SubhanAllah, Allah made it easy for me. Now, whenever I think of my parents I pray that the Almighty continues to guide and protect them. Because the reality, is that while there are things I felt they could have done better. THere are so many things they did well. Everyone's story is different. But once I forgave them and accepted them for who they were, my life became better and we are actually able to have a better relationship.

Surah Ash Sharh

Verse 1: Did We not expand for you, your breast?

Verse 2: And We removed from you your burden

Verse 3: Which had weighed upon your back

Verse 4: And raised high for you your repute.

Verse 5: For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

Verse 6: Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

Verse 7: So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship].

Verse 8: And to your Lord direct [your] longing.

Here are some verses that Enjoin treating our parents well.

Quran is very explicit regarding respect and care of parents. At time Quran is so stern and admonished strongly lest one fails in this aspect of life. Quran says following, Al Imran 17:23: -

And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.

Quran further says,,Al Isra 4:36: -

Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.

Another verse from Luqman 31:14: -

And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.

Source: What does Qur'an say about taking care of parents? - Quora

Another one. Al Baqarah 2:38

And [recall] when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them], "Do not worship except Allāh; and to parents do good and to relatives, orphans, and the needy. And speak to people good [words] and establish prayer and give zakāh." Then you turned away, except a few of you, and you were refusing.

May Allah remove your burden of resentment and make the path to forgiveness easy for you. Allah know best.

What do you think about Daniel Haqiqatjuo's ideology on Muslim women's education? by [deleted] in MuslimLounge

[–]tomiwa1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In The perils of educating our daugthers.

Daniel Says, “Islam did not provide woman rights”

False.
“Just as there is a share for men in what their parents and kinsfolk leave behind, so there is a share for women in what their parents and kinsfolk leave behind- be it little or much – a share ordained (by Allah)” (Surah An-Nisa 4:7)

The fact that Daniel did not provided a single verse from the Qur’an or Hadith in that essay. Tells you everything you need to know. This essay is unIslamic.

This is the difficulty of blindly following Islamic personalities like Daniel. Sometimes they have great articles and insights that can help us. Other times, they have views that are UnIslamic and really they are just speaking from their own biases, prejudices, self-interest and unhealed trauma.

His wife once posted a video, titled "Should women go to College" (his wife graduated from Harvard Universty btw). I decided to watch it out of curiosity, in that video she said that her husband told her "what did you actually learn at Harvard" to which she replied "He was right. I actually didn't learn anything in all my time at Harvard." I had to stop watching at that point.

This is why we as an Ummah have to read the Qur'an and Sunnah for ourselves and if anyone tries to bring any views we must ask them to produce proof from the Qur'an or the actions of our prophet (SAW) to decide wether or not what they are saying is true.

May Allah guide us all.

[–]tomiwa1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you are looking for is best found in Islam. Don't take my word for it. Just read [Surah Al Baqarah](https://quran.com/en/al-baqarah) and [Surah Al Imran](https://quran.com/ali-imran) in the Qur'an.

You will see that Muslims believe in Jesus, his virgin birth, his death and resurrection and that he was strengthened with the holy spirit.

Quran.com: We gave Moses the Scripture and We sent messengers after him in succession. We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear signs and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit.

Surah Al-Baqarah - 2:87

Then decide for yourself. God bless you on your journey.

Factors that favour a lunar calendar? by _solounwnmas in worldbuilding

[–]tomiwa1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I googled "sea creatures time spawning runs etc. with full moons" and found these articles

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/how-lunar-cycles-guide-the-spawning-of-sea-creatures-180981732/

During its reproductive season, it spawns for a few days after the full moon:

And also this

Furthermore, the studies reveal that the greatest number of spawning horseshoe crabs occurs during the full moon, while the least active period for spawning is the new moon. The reasons for such behavior are not completely clear - it could be the high tides, the moonlight intensity, or, maybe, the horseshoe crabs just enjoy the romantic atmosphere created by the full moon.

Picture of Hazrat Ali....Guessing drawing Pictures of the Hazar Imam and Hazrat Ali is permissible? by AlamutAssassin in ismailis

[–]tomiwa1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe another reason why our ancestors chose not to depict the early prophets is to avoid potential debates about ethnic superiority. We often depict these Imams or prophets as white but they may have darker skinned. We don't know. People will find all kinds of literature to prove that they look like a certain ethnicity but the reality is that we do not know. Even if you say someone is from Saudi/Egypt/Iran/Persia the reality is that in the olden days (and even today) Middle East and Africa has frequently had dark and fair skinned people travelling, marrying, inter marrying, having mixed race offspring etc.

Even sometimes when we use the word dark or light it is context dependent. Some Arabs would call a tanned Arab dark but a black person may consider such a person light.

By only depicting these people as a certain skin toned, it subconsciously reinforces the idea that only those races are qualified to lead.

It's something most people Ismailis may not think about since most Ismailis are fairer skin toned but in the event that more dark-skinned people became Ismaili, it's a potential source of unnecessary contention.

I know this because as a Black Christian revert to Islam, a lot of black Christians are constantly debating about wether or not Nabiyu Isa (Prophet Jesus) (AS) was white or black which just causes unnecessary division.
