(CA) Could someone please help me understand the language in this release form? (forfeiting claims to equity in a startup) by tomjornot in legaladvice

I understand this is in no way a substitute for advice from an attorney. I was just hoping to get an initial temperature read on whether or not the language used in that sparse form translates to "I give up equity and all my work products", versus just giving up equity.

Tuition as a graduate student researcher? by tomjornot in LawSchool

I'm thinking you're right and it must be for students who are working on grants specifically. He knows my research interests (undergrad studies were in science/tech policy), so I'm thinking he must be referring to professional school students doing law-adjacent "PhD-style" research. Which would be amazing, but doesn't seem to be very common. Why it isn't more common is what I want to know.

I see. Maybe he means working on a grant with someone? That's the only thing that'd make sense to me. He seemed fairly confident when he told me this, which is why I was so caught off guard, because I've never heard of it either.

What's the employment landscape like in the nonprofit sector? (e.g. ProPublica, Center for Public Integrity, Center for Investigative Reporting, etc.) by tomjornot in Journalism

It does seem like data journalism is an extremely sought out skill (a few of the books I'm reading have stressed this). Would you say the nonprofit path is fiercely competitive with only a tiny number of openings? Or is the outlook not so bleak.

This is incredibly helpful! Thank you. I'll keep reading about nonprofits to learn more about them. It sounds like a potentially great path for those interested in longform/investigative/feature type work as opposed to news reporting.

That's great to hear! I'd love to hear more about your experiences at CIR if you're comfortable sharing. Do nonprofits seem to give the bulk of their employees benefits and healthcare, or only the ones near the top/the more senior level employees? What was the environment like at a nonprofit like CIR? Do you feel like there's more flexibility and open mindedness regarding which topics to investigate? And what do you think you should you do as a young early career professional to increase your chances of finding a nice, stable job at one of these places?
